You do know the crew is suing, right? Doesn't mean they are lying, but they have motivation to do so.

Like I said earlier, they are suing because the company and the captain put their lives in danger. If you see the course plotted by the captain, they were 235 miles off the coast of Somalia when they should have been 600 like every other vessel sailing those waters. Negligence and stupidity caused the incident.

Fun movie, may not be the most accurate but I enjoyed it.

              The dear Captain

Sort of off-topic, but on another internet forum I frequent there's a few martime industry types, one of who knows the Captain quite well.

He says he is well known in the industry as the biggest douche bag there is. Funny how the movie makes him out to be a hero.

I knew about this after discovery had a special on seal team 6 after Osama was killed . On the documentary it said they shot 3 pirates simultaneously from the back of the ship to the rescue boat .....(Which made me want to see this part in the movie lol) but I wonder if they really did tow it and stopped like that and how much difference it would make than a shot from a bobbing ship to a bobbing rescue boat

The whole thing was very different than the account in "No Easy Day," and the SEALs in this movie were ridiculously robotic.

The discovery channel made a documentary with footage from the real event, and interviews with Naval officers and the SEALS involved. Its on Netflix.

This movie made it into my favorite movies list. I have to resist playing it sometimes after I watched it the first. One of Tom Hanks best performances.

I encourage everyone to research about the Somali pirate situation. It goes a lot deeper, and these guys are just trying to get money after the world pirated their fishing waters. Most of these pirates are just fisherman, cattle herders, or villagers that are just trying to put food on their table. I think the most interesting thing about this tho is how nations like China and Russia are using this as an opportunity to show offtheir naval prowess to the world, and Japan is using it as a way to militarize for once after WW2. BILLIONS of dollars are spent to keep Naval vessels in the water to stop pirates. If they would just invest a few million in the local infrastructure, the pirating would stop, but unfortunately this has become a huge international (male genitalia) measuring contest.

Somalia is so ****ed that any nation building would be a complete waste of money. Warlords run that place and when one is removed another fills his spot.

I get these people are just trying to get money, but when you resort to hostage taking and firing on unarmed vessels you need to be dealt with harshly.
