If your kid can rack the slide of a 1911 without help, I'm seriously impressed. Hell, I have trouble with that, and I'm a grown adult.

My 4 year old saw the commercial and starts to yell and scream at my wife "no no. Mom!! Noooooo! That kid is being bad. No no no no touching. He is going to get hurt". I ran in from the other room to see what was going on and my 4 year old says "those are bad kids, kids don't touch guns".

They've setup a controlled response. You could put BUTTERFLIES (instead of guns) and kids will go into whatever. ABCs just another COMMIE/FACIST network.

They said right in the trailer that 1.7 million children live in a home with an unlocked gun. Now what percentage of those children actually were injured/died as a result of a firearm accident? Next to nil (.004%) yet, they happily gloss over that fact. If you included households with children that do lock up their guns the percentage is even lower.

Complete hit piece. Ranks right up there with the .50 cal. hit piece Ed Bradley did for 60 minutes. It was shortly after that episode they banned the selling of .50 cal. rifles in California and required registration. Despite the fact that no one has committed a crime in this state with one, let alone shot down an airplane. Gee, I wonder what the motivation was for this show?

I don't have children in my home anymore but, I still lock my guns up because I don't want anyone accessing them without my permission. Besides, how embarrassing would it be to come home and get shot by a burglar with your own gun?

Now, your kid may be properly educated about firearms and totally safe around them but, what about all his little friends? It only takes one mistake to find yourself in a nightmare of lawsuits, possible prison time, and/or the loss of a life to realize that a prudent man would lock up his firearms when he isn't around.

I don't agree that there should be a law requiring you to do so but, I think part of being a responsible gun owner is to do what you can to prevent misuse of your firearms by unauthorized parties. This means securing them is some fashion when they are not in your control.

I also feel that they should teach the NRA Eddie Eagle gun safety course to young children and rehash the subject every year they are in grade school. You notice that they didn't bother reporting what percentage of kids that died in firearm accidents have taken an NRA safety course. I'm sure there might be some but, I'm willing to bet the percentages would show that the Eddie Eagle program has a positive impact. After all, if they were really concerned about the safety of children, wouldn't they promote anything and everything that would reduce the number of fatalities?

So taking the hospitalization of males chart from Pediatrics magazine in the Blaze article:



and moving the bars to show total hospitalizations by age group, it becomes even more blatantly obvious that the problem is not with elementary school age children. Hospitalization of children from 0-9 years old is insignificant (2%) compared to hospitalizations of 15-19 year olds. The numbers for 10-14 year olds probably include a fair amount of gang activity. Even all of the hospitalizations from 0-14 add up to only 10% of the the 15-19 numbers.
