I am not a member.
I think the lightning link was some way to make your semi auto fire fast to simulate automatic fire. I think of a few of those multi burst trigger things have been classified as machine guns by the ATF, California won't let you have one whether they are or aren't considered machine guns by the ATF. -
Real lightning links are registerd NFA devices. they are machineguns under federal law.
It is a paddle/link which trips the disconect as the bolt moves to the forwardmost position.
don't f with them, you WILL go to jailComment

LL turns your gun into full auto, and isn't legal unless it was registered like a DIAS "back in the day". Apparently you can make them from a hacksaw blade or something.sigpicLord, make my hand fast and accurate.

I've heard that a properly bent paper clip will do the same thing. Of course, I'm not stupid enough to try it. I won't ever try the shoe lace thing either!NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Yeah, I've heard of them. They're not like multi burst trigger actuators - those are more like bump firing. The lightning link is an NFA device which makes the gun fire in full auto by interrupting the disconnector when the bolt returns to battery.Comment

How familiar are you with a regular M16 fire control group?
No offense here, but you can't put two disconnectors in an M16 or AR-15 trigger.
The way an M16 works is that the selector draws the disconnector down when in full auto and the auto sear controls the hammer via the carrier.
My understanding is that the way a LL is suposed to work is to just drop into a semi-auto hammer/trigger/disconnector and allow for full auto function.
In other words, safe/full, not safe/semi/full.
The selector being forward in that picture is interesting too.
You can't use an M16 selector in a LL application so why have the M16 selector?Last edited by ar15barrels; 07-25-2008, 4:27 PM.Randall Rausch

The point is that it looks custom, not just an AR15 that someone threw a lightning link into for instant FA goodness. How familiar are you with a regular M16 fire control group?

I was simply pointing out that the disconnectors are of different lengths, appear to work independently from each other, and the selector appears to operate in three positions.
If trying to answer your questions comes with a rebuttal of being talked down to, then perhaps you shouldn't ask them anymore.
ETA: it looks like the second disconnector has a forward catch on it - 3rd burst, possibly? Maybe it's set for SAFE-BURST-FALast edited by leelaw; 07-25-2008, 4:41 PM.Comment
