Let's not be too harsh on the people who don't LIVE on the message boards. A time frame is the solution to communications.

If you post something hot...and immediately within the first hour there's 5 "I'll take its!" and each of them PMs you with their intention..and you reply to the first one and start waiting...there was no set time frame specified for that person. According to your undetailed ad, you said the first "i'll take it" gets it...that's it..bound to that! So to alleviate that situation, detail in your add to email you or pm you and you'll either immediately respond and expect follow up with an hour, 6 hours, 10 hours, 24 hours...or you're moving on to the next person.

We've all read about people who moved on to #2 in line and saw #1 get pissed because of bad timing.

SOLUTION: Descriptive, time sensitive ad based on your flexibility first, and by what you expect of buyers and follow up.

The only problem is then you can simply have a bunch of people leaving negative feedback simply from misunderstandings or someone goes on vacation is out of town with a emergency or whatever and cant respond so now even if they still wanted the thing for sale they got negative feedback

I've been burned a couple of times here by folks that "will take it". Heck one prominent contributor on this forum even left me hanging at the gun shop for over an hour and a half, and never bothered to call, email or PM to say sorry or there was a mis-understanding after numerous attempts to get ahold of him. I let it go, but honestly that is what the itrader is for. But I'll never do business with HIM again and have PM'd a couple of folks warn them. Really, its just the way some people are..... On the other hand there are some teriffic folks that I've met here, don't give up on us all.......

I have posted a few items in the market place and I'll get an IM from someone saying they'll take it and then I hear nothing. They don't respond to any requests. It really ticks me off!

Yup. One guy now resides on my ignore list for this. I kept some of his PM's to remind me of how the people here can flake. That is why I almost never sell guns here, most my guns I don't want go in to dealer consignment cases. I'd rather lose the 20% or so. I didn't leave negative feedback though.

Why? Because the FFL now gets to deal with the freaks and weirdos and window shoppers,not me. Gun shop windowshoppers/Walter Mitty/Mall Ninja types I hate more than almost anything else. I used to have that 50cent song "windowshopper" on my cell phone, I played it in a gunshop a couple of times in these situations to get a laugh out of my dad.

Why oh why do people love to flake and back out of deals here? Others here have proven to be good stand up guys though I have met thru sales and trades here.

As mentioned, it really burns me up when the lil bitc*&S that do this wont respond to your PMs and hide. In one case I even agreeded to change venues and drop the price a bit to be nice and the guy still would not respond like a lil ho. Be a man.

These are in some cases I bet the same people that ask 1000 questions in the gunshop, touch every gun in the place, and say they will "be back" or then make some cutesy comment like they have to ask their wife permission first and leave after wasting everyones time and buying nothing.

Or I get people wanting to sell me stuff or do trades then suddenly decide that we are too far apart. Duh, didn't you see clearly in my location I am in LA county?

I could go on all night about this and related subjects such as people offering me say a rusted 20ga JC Higgins 20ga in trade for my S&W .44mag,I'm only exaggerating a little. Or offering me $200 on a gun worth at least $375-425.

Last example;
I recently sold a Saiga 762 through the forums here. It was amazing how many Calgunners were messaging me while it was already marked SPF to the first I'll Take It; Saying "I'll pay you TODAY." or "I'm willing to pay more." and "forget that guy, I'll drive out and buy it."
Jumping someone elses deal is low in my opinion. So, I'm sure it happens... most likely happened to the deals I thought were solid.

Sad, and a reason that many here put SPF and remove originally posted sale price which I HATE! but I understand why. I've never tried to undercut others deals here. It seems honor and integrity and pride are rare these days.

As far as I see it its like anything else. Remember when you wanted to sell a car/boat/etc and you had people calling and wanting to look at it? Then endlessly waiting and no shows? Basically if someone wants to buy something they can come down and look at it. If the meeting time is 7 PM BE THERE AT 7 Pm. I will wait about 10-15 minutes after that I dont care if youre pulling in the parking lot and Im pulling out. Im gone. If i were running late I would call and make sure you know im running late so give me the same courtesy ( instead of being inconsiderate. Youre not the most important thing in the world no matter what mommy sais to you) but 99% of the time I make all my appointments on time. When i cant I call.
People are always gonna flake and its not just in California. What ends up happening IMO is people start looking at stuff and they want it so they immediately respond with a Ill take it just to be first in line. At this point they sit there and secondguess themselves wether they want/need/afford said gun and after dragging their feet procrastinating they decide not to buy it but now too much time has passed so no matter what you look like a A hole. Now you gotta think up a good excuse that the seller will buy and will sympathise with you. Now not only did you piss off the seller but you most likely lost him a few intrested parties.

Im trying to help a buddy in the Navy sell his boat. I have to show it to people. I got a call a few nights ago when the guy called wants to look at the boat. I gave him directions waited. No show. Called no answer. Went home. Another guy called and wanted me to send him detailed pics of the boat becaus as he put it" you know gas is so expensive these days". I asked him where he lived cause the # showed up as 714 area code. he said Anaheim but with gas as it is........ I told him Ill try to get him pics. The way i see it if the guy is *****ing abotu gas price to fill his car up he doesnt need a boat. Either way im not wasting my time. if someone is serious abotu buying it they can come look at it. I simply dont other with send me pics cause Im too lazy to get off my fat *** and come down and look at it. People will be flakes no matter where they are or what theire buying

Why not put an ebay style "Buy it now" button that you agree to purchase it. If you decide not to follow through you get banned from the market place for a week.

Ive had worse, One particular person on these boards tried to get me to do a hand off of a C&R pistol, neither he nor I had a C&R, Didnt want to go thru a FFL, just wanted me to hand it to him when he handed me cash, Then he tried to lowball me on the already agreed upon price, then he tried to offer me some junk in trade! If my suspicion is correct, hes done that with quite a few folks here. My personal rules, save all pms, then if it goes bad, notify a mod, go to next in line, make them the same offer that it sold for, if they dont want it, I go to the third guy, if he doesnt want it, it goes back into the safe!

I'm selling my house... I have realtors schedule, why always 5-7? I hold off on dinner, laundry, even the 'just got home from work crap and shower', just to no-show. I called one realtor at the end of her time window, only to be told that her client didn't pre-qual on the loan. WTF, why even schedule a showing, and thanks for canceling BTW.

Its even worse after I put the house on Craigslist and Zillow. I get random strangers knocking on my door wanting to come inside. You need to call a realtor and schedule. Please pre-qual with a loan beforehand. You want to waste your time driving around looking at houses you can't afford, be my guest, I do the same thing. But I don't go knocking on doors, so don't waste my time. I had one creep show up, asking about the house through the security door. I leave the deadbolt locked, but don't usually lock the knob. He was twisting and pulling on the knob and couldn't figure out why the door was locked. I had never even invited him in. KRAZIES!

When I get a PM saying "I'll take it", I place the item SPF to (screen name) in my thread. I hate PMs that say "Hey my brother-in-law saw your ad and he said he will take it". I was silly enough to fall for that once. Never again. If I have an item for sale, I would usually give out my number in PM and set something up that way. I figure if I don't hear from that person within a reasonable amount of time then they weren't serious. All in all, I've been lucky in the marketplace. All my items (except for one I had to ship) have sold in 2 days or less.

I'd love one of these backing out of deals type people to come out like a man and explain themselves, you all know who you are, bring it on! Cool Cat, good idea, but punishment needs to be harsher and many will make excuses saying the gun didn't live up to their expectations or other such BS.
