Thank your lucky stars you didn't take that puppy to the range, load up and hit the trigger...that would have been a very bad day.

Lesson learned? I don't think MBR really had anything to do with this.

It is not unheard of that someone could have access to it while in jail! Much like the mechanic or valet that totaled the Ferrari while under their care!....lol!

You and the seller should head to the gun shop together.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

Actually why does Retting need a CA ID for ammo purchase? I think it's an internal bs policy they are not in LA city limits. PPT crybabying, skyhigh prices, attitude at times, keep me mainly away.

In a lifetime of buying guns I have purchased exactly one there. Retting is mainly for people too afraid or too dumb or something to comparison shop and travel a little farther away. I believe Retting also sells all non roster modern handguns they acquire out of state instead of giving us a chance by putting them on consignment.

ugh i hate going to reddings ill only go there when stuff is on sale or cheap (which is ht or miss and not that often) plus that fat dude with the long hair is an a""hat and swings his big salami around and tries to belittle you on everything you say, i remember one time i brought a stripped lower to do a ppt and he just said, no, pointed his finger and said go to big 5, which clearly he treated me like some clueless or ignorant person and i just sarcastically said whatever and took my business elsewhere

case in point avoid that guy like the plague or go somewhere else to ppt or buy since its not even worth the hassle to reason with the customer service. plus i realized they do preferential treatment there and thats just a big nono for me

If you bought the rifle from them any issues can be brought up to the in house gunsmith unless they got rid of him too!

If I were you I'd take it to the smith for examination and with his approval head to the range to check accuracy. As long as there's no bulge in the bore you should be fine.

In addition check your rifle good. If it's a little dirty I would think someone put a few rounds through the rifle. Who did it it's hard to tell.

Did you look down the bore, using a light source, prior to Retting taking possession of the firearm?

When I inspecting a firearm, one of the first things I do is look down the bore.

I find it HIGHLY unlikely that someone from Retting put a bullet in the firearm.

PPT means he didn't buy it from them.

You got it. That is the most important piece of info. If the answer is "No, I did not inspect the barrel prior to the PPT", then it's not really fair play for OP to infer Retting's is at fault.

I just did a PPT at Martin B Retting a couple of weeks ago (right before the OP's post came up, so I was bit worried myself). It was the first time I had ever even there.

Long story short, the guys were very courteous during the PPT transaction and that went very smoothly, and then when I picked up my firearm last week it again went very smoothly and the guys there were cool. Maybe I lucked out on those 2 days, but IMO they're good to go in my books.

As much as it can be a pain-in-the-butt to do a PPT at Rettings, with the wide variety of rare, unique, high-end, and specialized guns they have in their shop - not to mention what you DON'T see in their back room and upstairs - I highly doubt anyone in the store was futzing around with your gun by putting a bullet in your chambering or down your bore, or loading a dummy round (in that the bullet might have fallen out into the bore) and most assuredly they are NOT loading live ammo into a firearm for no real purpose within the store or back room.

This, especially on PPT items where the firearm in question is about as pedestrian, common, and as boring as it can get - such as a Ruger American 30-06. There isn't even a logical hypothesis as to why would they would do that. The most logical explanation is that it WAS in the gun at the time of your PPT and you did not check the bore thoroughly, and the seller did not know it was there either.

I will never use Martin B retting ever again. They boned me hard on what should have been a simple PPT.

I had a legally configured FAL rifle with 10 round mag fixed and bullet button that was aquired from enterprise arms. Took it to retting to handle the PPT as I had sold it to a co worker of mine. employees at retting were very uneasy about handling the PPT and were unsure if they could, so they called in the manager and gunsmith to inspect my firearm. After a few minutes they both gave me the thumbs up to proceed and the salesman helping us proceeded to take down required DROS info. All seemed to be going well after receiving their approval.. or so i thought.

Next day retting calls both the seller and myself and informs us that the firearm we were trying to transfer was an illegal "assault weapon" and would be turned over to culver city PD immediately. They claim their gunsmith test fired the weapon shortly after we left and with some .308 winchester ammunition and it fired 2 rounds on the single pull of the trigger (which it only did this one time) or so they claim. So they turned in to police department.

In the end, the PD ended up "destroying" the firearm and not pressing any charges and I ended up with nothing. Beware of martin b retting.

Wow, lots of different experiences at MBR by Calgunners. I've purchased 3 handguns from them in the last year and I did a PPT and I've had nothing but good experiences. As far as price, they seem to be on par with most LGS, with the exception of big chain stores like Turners, when they have a sale it's usually too good to pass up. Another thing I like about MBR is the steady supply of ammo on their shelves, plus the fact they limit the amount you can buy to keep the hoarders from clearing the place out.

As far as the OP and the Magic Bullet, my guess is the original Seller was a noob and sold you a lemon. Good thing you caught it before taking it to the range.

On another note, it's best to use a wooden dowel to help remove the lodged bullet and not a metal cleaning rod like you did. Let's hope you didn't damage the rifling with the metal rod. Get her inspected, take her out shooting, put this behind you and enjoy your rifle.
