Horrible Martin B Retting

So I did a ppt through this gun shop. The rifle a Ruger American 30-06. When I get it home it sits for a few day cause I've been work 12 hour shifts. So I get some free time after work and start to really check out my new gun. I pop the bolt out and try look down the barrel. My heart drops cause there is something in it. So I'm wondering wtf is going on. I use a hoopes cleaning rod pushing from the muzzle side down. Use all my body weight and pop. A bullet head... can you believe this. Right away I bring the bullet head to the muzzle and the bullet is bigger then the barrel inner barrel. I couldnt. So I call the gun shop today and ask what happen. They tell me they don't know. It's also not there job to inspect the firearm. .. only get the serial numbers off. And if he caught one of his employees messing with the ppt guns, he would just give the a warning. So now I have to take this to a gun Smith to find out if it is even safe to shoot. I still have no idea where this bullet head came from. The inside of the rifle looks good.
But see i realize i should of looked down the barrel b4 i took the gun home. But any advise on what i should do next? And also i don't recommend Martin B Retting after all Dougs BS. ROFL... If i saw one of my employees with a PPT I'd give them a warning. They should be reported. This really grinds my gears.

First thing's first....did you try to get in contact with the seller??

I've been doing business at Retting's for 35 years. Apart from a few asshat type employees that come and go, they have been great. They won't inspect your firearm for you on a PPT. And it is doubtful that an employee put a bullet in the barrel.

Spoke with the owner and he was like huh? Had no idea what I was talking about and we both inspected the gun b4 we started paper work. And everything was cherry.

Well, then that is a different kettle of speared fish. If the bullet wasn't there when you did the PPT, and WAS there when you got it home, sounds like something is fishy at Retting's house.

I misread your first post, thought you said you didn't look down the barel during PPT. My mistake.

Yea, it sounds like you should have inspected it better before purchasing it from the seller. You can't blame Martin B. Retting if the seller was the one who put a bullet in the barrel. You should contact the seller and ask him what happen.

He did say he inspected the barrel prior to purchase and it was clear, but wished he had looked at it again before taking the gun home after the jail time.

The gun was good at time of purchase. 10 days later... from what I am now guessing is a magical bullet lodging fair must have bippty Bobbitt boo my barrel with a bullet.

Pretty serious business if someone did lodge a bullet in there. KaBoom could have been in your future. Good thing you inspected prior to firing.

Someone fired a .308 round in your gun-that's how that bullet got lodged in your barrel. I had a similar event long ago with a custom made match Garand.........

Is it possible someone chambered a round and the bullet was jammed in the rifling?Case came out without bullet?

where did he say he inspected it previous to PPT transaction??? I know the store and its my LGS (been shopping in their with pops and gramps before I was in junior high) and yes they do have higher prices on some items you may find on sale at Turners or Big 5, but they only have the one location. The prices on used guns are decent and sometimes if you search enough you can get an awesome deal. The attitude is usually due to the idiot questions like what do you mean you need my CA ID for ammo?

In my past experience with PPT's done at rettings - no one is going to shoot your gun while it waits for the 10 days. How well did you inspect the rifle/pistol? Yes PPT's get the back seat at almost ALL stores so you have to wait your turn. Never have I seen them shoot any of the guns ive got from PPTs (I usually do a quick cleaning & inspection in their parking lot before final decision) My guns still smell like minty fresh Frog Lube when I have picked them up in 10 days

I spoke with my regular salesman their and he said only the managers ever test fire guns and its NEVER been a PPT gun that he has ever seen. A manager has test fired a gun before they made an offer on it but with the owners permission while doing the negotiation.

sorry OP that you had a bad experience, but you really think they want to test fire your $400 American Ruger - have you seen the historical firearms on their walls?!?! let alone all the newer AR's, Ronnie B's MRAD & 416, the NEMO 300 win mag etc

the truth was you got excited that you got a good deal on the rifle took it home and as you stated didnt look at it for several days due to 12 hour shifts etc. Maybe you where just too tired and dont remember if you checked the gun well enough, sorry I just dont see the guys at MBR testing you 30-06 american ruger

He may not have been referring to the barrel, but I got the impression that "gun was good to go" and "everything was cherry" meant he had inspected the barrel along with everything else. Could be wrong, maybe OP can clarify.
