I would have as well, even an airsoft projectile connecting with a testicle… ouch.

"Airsoft" etiquette: how would you react?

When I step onto a paintball or airsoft field, I am wearing the gear to prevent injury. Muzzle control is VERY important until it is confirmed all players have their mask on and ready to go. Until then, I keep my "gun" pointed in a sare direction.
Even though it is a "toy" in some minds, it is still capable of causing pain, and if hit to sensitive parts - severe injury.
Over-react? Maybe, but still needs to respect the tool in his hands.Comment

No you did not I overreact.
Anything that can shoot out a projectile needs to have some control over of and muzzle awareness IMO. I get mad any my 4 years old if is Nerf gun that has no power shooting foam darts, starts pointing that thing at us (his parents) or to his little brother.Comment

While perhaps more polite about it (but no less insistent) than you, I would have corrected him as well.
In my experience, people that are careless/negligient with airsoft guns, are also careless/negligient with real guns, eventually..."Truth is our most valuable commodity - let us economize." -- Mark TwainComment

Same rules. It may not be deadly, but it can endanger sight. We treat them like real guns.My AR is 7.62x39, so that if/when we get invaded, I can shoot their ammo back at them!

Wow interesting discussion. Thanks for all the feedback guys.
I'm definitely not a fan of the sweeping-is-ok-except-in-the-face stuff. That philosophy seems all kinds wrong on a few levels.
I think I'm going to keep on keepin on with my conservative approach; if it fires a projectile, it needs to be treated as a firearm. I don't see any negative in that, except that I might not be thought of as the most fun Uncle in the world to the 4 year olds in the family. That's something I can live with, especially since I'm guessing that will all change the instant those kids grow up enough to get to the range with me for the first time."This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave." - Elmer DavisComment

I'm sorry you feel personally responsible to defend all of airsoft be creating big generalized groups of people.Yea I'm not in the mood for this. I now see why you held and quoted my deleted post. You guys have fun tackling and disarming your airsoft friends.
Please never visit a paintball or airsoft park. You will have your selves heat attacks with the "dangerous" players with no muzzle safety.
I can already see how far gone this is going. I'm going to bed. Good night CGN.
No one here is advocating disarming people. Further, because we advocate NOT sweeping anyone it doesn't lead to some slippery slope where society calls for the destruction of airsoft guns.
As for your claim we avoid paintball/airsoft fields, stop being a baby. Paintballers use barrel plugs and barrel condoms when off field to prevent injury. When people don't abide by those rules off-field they are reprimanded and in some cases of gross negligence, booted from the field. Airsoft should be no different. I understand you don't use plugs or bags, sp keep the barrel pointed away from things you don't want to injure... Just like a firearm! (gasp)Come to Flavor Country...

I use airsofts and blue guns as training tools, alongside real firearms, so I treat them as if they were real.
Last November I took an Active Shooter Threat Instructor course at FLETC, and we used gas pistols and gas M4s, instead of FX sims, and we absolutely treated them like they were real.Comment

^ Yup, could do that... or bust a tooth, or embed an airsoft pellet somewhere it's not wanted. Plenty of pictures on the Net that justify the OP's unhappiness at his buddy's HUA condition.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

People with airsoft guns want to play with them as if they are real. Well then they should treat them as "real' guns and should act accordingly. I was at Cabela's recently and attended a local gun show. Plenty of airsoft guns there. I couldn't tell if they were real guns far away without that red plug or whatever it is.
In my opinion, that's what the deputy had to deal with. That's why the 13 kind got killed, dealing with something and a situation he put himself in that resulted in his death.
Stupid!!! All those people protesting? Just go to a sporting goods store or a LGS and look at the airsoft guns. They look real to me!Comment
