    Firearm safety

I'm doing a school project and I chose the topic if gun safety to base it off of. After reading numerous articles of kids picking up their families guns and shooting themselves I realized this was a problem not many people think is a serious problem. Do you think its a serious problem?

you will find that on this forum site the membership encourages and supports safe gun ownership. gun safety is always of concern to the Calguns community; there ya have it.

I think gun safety is important to all legal gun owners and especially those who have children. There are far too many cases of children being shot or accidentally shooting someone else, but the problem lies with the parent who is careless. Is that the only aspect of gun safety you are planning to cover in your paper?

its a problem when the kids dont have any safety training. if parents dont teach their kids about firearms, then it is all a big mystery to them and they dont know any better.

Well that is the problem I am addressing. And just to let you know its not a paper its a project. I go to a school where we do nothing but projects that require us to go out into the community. And for part of this project I will be going to the redding rodeo and handing free cable locks at a booth and raffling off a gun safe. So its far more than just a school assignment

If teaching gun safety to your kids is not priority, regardless, of who is involved then you should not b a gun owner...its just like drinkin and driving, if youre driving you sshouldnt b thinkn bout drinking..

Check out the NRAs Eddie Eagle Program - maybe pick up some literature to go with those locks!

Look up the statistics, accidental shootings have been on the decline for many years, like 40 or 50. The Eddie Eagle programs are excellent programs but since they are from the NRA many antis are against using them but they have no programs to use instead.

What would be a good way to get the community involved in teaching their kids safe firearm etiquette without parents and gun owners thinking were trying to push gun control onto them. Because gun control is not what I believe in or anyone in my group.

Your tact in this post is MUCH better than in the political form regarding AB-231.

Your project of education and assistance is exactly the direction we need to move in order to best reduce the amount of negligent firearm accidents that affect children.

I plan on bringing together people from the community such as big companies like sportsman's wearhouse and local gun stores to get involved in my project.
And BTW I go to Anderson new tech, I am interested in knowing what school you teach at?

You'll have to teach the parents first.

I think firearm education to children in schools should be taught. Whether it's what a real one looks like and what to do. Like not touch it. Teach them young. Many children don't know their parents even have guns. A fail on the parents part not to educate their own children on firearm safety.

Having the gov. Mandate it in one way or another for possession or purchasing is an infringment.

Simple educational mailers would be money better spent then creating ineffective laws, regulations, or licensing
