Found something interesting out about my XD9..

So, I bought what I THOUGHT was an XD9 SC with a 3.5" barrel from a LGS. It was advertised as a 3.5" barreled SC, for $499. I bought the gun, waited my 10 days, and took it home. (This was a while ago). Then for Christmas, my FIL got me two fullsize magazines with the grip extenders on the bottom. I took those home, and with the grip extenders on, the magazine would not lock into the gun. So, after some research, and looking over my paperwork, and doing some investigating and measuring, I discovered I have an XD9 4" Service Model. I don't really care, as I like the way the gun shoots, and I'm not gonna concealed carry, so it's not an issue for me. The dilemma I have here, is after firing roughly 1000 rounds through this gun, do I tell the LGS that they sold me the wrong gun? All paperwork has matching serial numbers, so I'm not too concerned about it. I legally own the gun, and I really like the gun, but would you bother going to the LGS and informing them that they sold you the wrong pistol?

I would think an issue could arise if they actually did sell you the SC, as they will have different SN#'s

Serial number on DROS and receipt matches the firearm, so technically they sold me the XD9 Service 4" at the sale price on the sub compact... All paperwork says that.

Yep, you got a steal, I am looking at the XDM 3.8 right now and pricing is $600...

I don't understand how that is a steal when a XDM is only $100 more, and not on roster, IA300.

Yeah everywhere I see says that the XD 4" service is regularly around $549.00... The XD Sub compact is around $569 at most places, so if anything, I didn't get as good of a deal as I thought I was getting. Still, IMHO, a great price for a great gun.

Yes, it's good price, but I'd prefer the Tactical version inasmuch as the Service model is not concealable. Have fun with a great gun!

However, I have 'heard' or 'read' or 'seen' a YouTube video where they may have had problems with failures to feed. I think the video was a 'nutnfancy' one but I've read about it elsewhere. Hope someone might chime in on that...gives me slight pause in a future purchase...may be just a rumor..

I can say that no firearm fit my hand as well as the XD-45 Tactical, so the 9 Service model and especially Tactical 9 would be similar in my medium-sized hands.

As to what you had originally purchased, it is simply too 'blocky' to suit my needs or taste, whether concealed or not. YMMV, but I'd stay with the Service model if you are as happy as initially stated-the only issue being the mistake as to the model.

To answer your first question, $100 is still $100, that's a few extra mags and/or holster...
And on this point ^^^ it's funny you mention it, I have an XDs 45. One of my coworkers also HAD one, but he was having FTF issues. He noticed the slide would not go completely back in battery, staying out by a fraction of an inch. Enough to cause a light primer strike, but no discharge...It happened on approx. 1 round every 2 to 3 mags.
He sent it back to Springfield and they told him it was a grip issue, he quickly sold the gun and got something else. And this guy knows his way around guns...So, I had doubts it was a grip issue.
I didn't have that issue with mine, until I got it back from the recent recall. I pulled the trigger and it went "click" not "boom". I did my tap, rack and it fired. I recovered the ejected round and there was a light primer strike. I am not saying the recall had anything to do with this issue, I just did not have the issue with the firearm prior to that and I had about 1200 rounds through. I am going to take it out again this week and see if it duplicates the problem. If so, not sure I am going to keep it...

You are comparing apples to oranges with respect to the XD9sc/Xd9 Service to the XDM, IMHO.

Thanks for relating your story with your 45 XDs, which, as you have stated, may or may not be related to the recall and fix you obtained. My concerns about FTF, etc. were directed to XD nines and perhaps all XD in general, but I will remember your comments. Hope that things turn out well for you with your current concerns.

I am going to link that youtube video once I find it. There are so many variables, though, it's hard to assume that it might be a 'defect'. Anyway, I should be able to find it quickly.

Here it is-note it is XDM in a shootout against the Glock. Read the 'About' part if you don't want to see entire video-he describes occurrences there:

I've carried a XD9 4" for armed security for 4 years. I have always felt very comfortable with it, even upholstering it at somebody before.

I've fed it all kinds of ammo. Steel cases tula, you name it. Very rarely have I ever recalled a FTE

I will add that Springfields customer service is exceptional. I also used the pistol for my POST firearms class. Some idiot managed to put my pistol together incorrectly, the guide rod got stuck and the pistol wouldn't rack. It was completely frozen.

I called Springfield and they fixed the issue for me free of cost! I thought it was a complete loss. They sent me a RA paid postage. Buy with confidence!

I've put about 1000 rounds through my xd, and have only had one FTF, which was interesting. It was at the range yesterday. The ammo would not fire and the slide would not rack. After some tinkering and dropping the Mag, I got the slide to pull back, and after inspecting the round, it appeared to have a slight lip where the bullet meets the brass. I've shot everything from tula steel cased to Winchester white box, to prograde 124gr, which inadvertently is the round that I had problems with.
