I don't think it's after the dog either. Horses mean feed, feed means mice and rats. Bobcats live on rats and mice. I've got several Bobcats when I used to hunt. A .25-20 winchester dropped them where they stood.

We have lots of bobcats around here and they haven't whacked anyone's dogs. They keep the mice and rats down. Leave it be.
Get another dog, a large serious one, and you won't have to worry about coyotes either.

It's a freaken little Bobcat. Find a friend that can shoot a compound, shoot, shovel, and shut up.

I hate wood rats a lot more than I fear bobcats.

Like suggesting trapping, which if caught without a license is a HUGE deal even on private land.

Which is why I posted a link to the regulations. It's a pretty simple read, really.

OP, please consider that no one is trying to give you ill advice, however, I for one am most certainly not an expert and others may not be either. We are eager to offer ideas and suggestions but should you employ them without properly vetting the legality of our suggestions, you could find yourself in more trouble than its worth.

Check with Fish and Wildlife. Take notes, name, date/time what was said.

Dont want to spread FUD here, but Fish and Game told me if I trap a cat, I have to put it down.

Back story:

6 cats in a month, eaten 2 roosters, 4 snow geese, 20 white doves, a old blue and gold macaw, and a 30 yr old African gray parrot. Yeah my eldery neighbor has alot of birds. These cats are a huge pest. And they found a easy food source, so they keep coming back. The Humane people gave traps and we have trapped them all, but they keep coming back and eating her birds. The Humane society drives them 40 miles away, which is like a 2 hour hike for the cats.

I'm county though on 5 acres. Not sure if that changes anything. I'm at my wits end. They are beautiful creatures and I hate to shoot something I dont intend to eat, but its gotta stop sometime.

But I found it conflicting that Fish and Game says I have to shoot it in the cage if trapped.

Hope it wasnt too confusing, I'm looking for the right answer myself....

Man there must be like 200 yotes for every bob in this state, personally I would try to get it relocated or leave it be...but that is me, I dont own horses but do have pets , kind of one of the things a person has to deal with when living in the boonies... oh and you probably WILL notice a rise in mice and rats..... I like having a natural pest disposal unit around... my cats keep my area free of mice rats,etc... and they are so thoughtful they even bring me the heads once in a while to show they do their job :<))

I think the turning point for me was when I let my 100lb american bulldog out my back patio and there was a bob 10 feet away, I didnt know who would win the fight...and the bob just sauntered away, sat in my raised bed garden and looked at me and the dog. I have a small child who loves to play outside and it just kinda rankled me a little. The bobs havn't been aggresive yet...

We have bobcats around my property and they did get one of my neighbors chickens but he decided to just build a better chicken coop in light of the squirrel and other varmint control that the bobcat provides.

Another friend had ground squirrels digging up a retaining wall in his back yard. He was thinking of getting a pellet gun to deal with the ground squirrels but then one morning, while sipping coffee, he noticed a bob cat hanging out near his back yard. The ground squirrels disappeared after that.

I would give a little more thought into the tradeoffs of taking out that bobcat. It's your call to make but just think it through before you act.

I have contacted f&g no response.. Found a buddy that has a tag and will come take it out. Neighbors know about it and actually good for me pro 2A . He's going to use a bow to minimize the sound. I was told a 22 would be fine at the distance we are talking about 50-60 yards max.. I'll post some pics when it's done deal.

Yeah if I had this problem I wouldn't be posting about it on CGN, I'd just solve the problem.
