How sure are we... (Re: Registration)

...that if you purchased a rifle on dec 26th, FFL's won't be required to retroactively register the firearm purchased before Jan 1? e.g. "Oh sorry sir, the DOJ is requiring me to enter in your name, type, and serial number upon pickup after Jan 1."

Who can tell me the above will not happen with 100% certainty.

I also started DROS on a rifle on the 26th of this month. I spoke to a few different stores about this and the only FFL that felt confident it wouldnt be registered was RifleGear. The rest of the stores all said "we arent sure." I didnt ask for an exact explanation from RG since I didnt buy from them but they seemed it wouldnt be registered if I did.

                  It will not be registered!

The registration process is the dealer adding the guns serial into the DROS system, this is not being done with long guns at present, what will happen on Jan 1. I cannot tell you, but I suspect it will be brought in line with the handgun DROS process.

I find it hard to believe that the other dealers were unsure of the process, the DROS system is idiot proof, you do a handgun, you add the gun make/model and serial, you do a long gun and you do not add either gun make/model or serial. Not that difficult.

Yes I understand that much and it sounds logical, however what I am asking is are we SURE if the DOJ will not be full-tyrant and ask the dealer to retroactively put the serial number in a modifed DROS form online, simply by demanding it for all orders within 10 days of Jan 1. I wouldn't put it past them.

They've been 'unofficially' keeping track of this for years and years, no doubt about it. Makes no difference in the end.

They do. When a FFL goes out of business, all documents get scanned and put in a database before they get shredded. There was a 20/20 or some other newscast about this. Its a way around for them.

No doubt. Despite this, I'd rather have our information kept on paper rather than in a centralized tyranny database.

the real test is whether the make/model/serial is added to the DROS system as the paperwork wont be picked up anytime soon (normally only when the dealer goes out of business), and at this time, the only info that is provided is how many guns plus the usual name number etc of purchaser.

I don't know why this thread came up, again, but the answer is no, your rifle won't be registered if the DROS is done before Jan 1.
