What actually "destroys" them? Is it that the cost outweighs the worth?
Seems like a waste not to try.
Would a long gun barrel get warped by the heat? I get it if a burning house fell into a long gun and bent it.
Here's the other question, you put in a homeowner's claim, does somebody take the gun like with a "totaled" car?
A lot more effort and commitment than a boating accident but, oh wait, this is all hypothetical and conjecture anyway.

The heat weakens the receiver and barrel. Internal components too. You can attempt to use them but you may get a kaboom.
