If you can get a bay to yourself, or just for your group, it is really nice. The pistol bays are fairly short, so rifle use is limited. I was able to use any targets I wanted to take, including steel. I was able to setup my chronograph and get readings without worrying about shooting with a bunch of other people next to me. You get to change out targets when you want, and you can draw from a holster. This used to be my only option for a nearby range with these conditions. You just have to take the good with the bad. It was hard to swallow the $30 fee, but it was worth it vs. going to BLM land.

You can shoot great competitions at other places, and West end is 20 bucks per shooter, for non members. I tried competitions at west end, to see if I liked the range.

Rifle shooting was limited at Raahauges, so that wasn't really worth while.

Now that I have a membership at West End, I don't need to use Raahauges. The catch is buying a membership and getting in (there is a max of 1600 members allowed). I didn't bother with the partial membership at West End, because I wanted to use the private bays and 230 yard rifle range.

I can't completely bad mouth Raahauges, as it used to be a good place for me and it may serve others well, but some of us have found greener pastures.

Yes, Hawk is gone. He was the competition shooters source for powder, primers and bullets.

        west end gun club

in every way a better and cheaper place to shoot. you can pick up all the brass you want or just leave it on the ground.
that 100 yard rifle range at your place sucks.

Went there once to buy some SAW ammo cans from another CalGunner. Didn't seem like a friendly place just from the impression I got from the office staff. As soon as I get some time to shoot I'll be going to Burro.
