We don't know what company Eastern is using. I sent an email requesting that info & will link the am best rating when I get it.

Eastern is just a large broker owned by a bank of the same name.

Has anyone ever needed to file a claim through any of these insurance policies for their guns? I'm curious as to how difficult it is to get them to pay out a claim. How does one get an appraisal on their collection?

The company used by eastern is Hanover. I didn't create a new am best account to verify their current rating. I may do so soon.

Their 5 year stock price chart looks troublesome. But that alone doesn't mean the company isn't stable.

Check out am best before you lay down your money. Just my 20 cents at this point.

This is so weird and most annoying. My So Cal AAA renters insurance clearly has a limit on firearms ($2K). Why the difference between Nor Cal and So Cal? Guess they use a different underwriter or something??

Not possible. AAA is not a broker they issue their own policies. The same company in the same state issuing the same policy is the same. There isn't a norcal policy and a different socal policy. There is a limit on all homeowners policies for firearms. I've yet to run into one that does not.

I'd suggest you read your policy and not take the word of the agent. I believe she is wrong. And if want to believe her I'd suggest you ask her again this time via email. If she gives you the same info, save it and file it in your policy. As an agent of AAA, the things she says is binding. Proving it though is difficult when time to file a claim unless it is written.

I'd hate to think one of you guy's home burns down and when you file a claim to recover your $30K collection and you only get $2K back. At that point it's a he said she said situation that you will not likely win. As there is no proof of what she told you, the only thing written is the policy.

I looked up Hanover on AM Best, but there were several "Hanovers"
Hanover American
Hanover Insurance
Hanover American Insurance
Hanover Lloyds
Hanover Fire and Casualty
Etc, Etc

Any idea which it is?

they were all listed as Stable. They had ratings of NR, B+ and A.

I am also interested in anyone who has made a claim.

I have Gun safes, so I don't believe I will have them stolen, but if the house burns to the ground, I'm not sure I would want to rely on firearms that have been in that drastic a fire.

The limit, if it exists is only for theft. Otherwise as you have rightly written, read your policy.
