A. Perhaps he actually knows what HE wants and has preferences that exclude GLocks and S&W's. Such as wanting a thinner grip, single action trigger or external safety.

B. Perhaps he considers it "money well spent" if he survives a lethal encounter and has to wait a while to get his pistol back. More than likely he has others he can carry while he waits.
