    Motorcycle cop in my town

(Atascadero) carrying an AR! I've never seen this before. Is it something new? I'll get a photo when I can and post it here.

I've heard of long guns mounted on LEO bikes but never seen in in the SF Bay Area and I've lived around here my whole life. I think it's more common in SoCal.
Wasn't there an incident a few weeks ago down south somewhere of a Police motorcycle with an AR mounted on it at an elementary school DARE event or something and some kid got their finger on the trigger and it fired? Should not have been loaded at all much less safety-off/round chambered at such an event.

Not really all that new. Some agencies have Long gun mounts on their motorcycles. I even read one article a few years back about a SoCal agency (Which one escapes me) issuing semi-auto P90s to their motorcycle officers.

I saw one up in Buena Park once. Not super common but they are around.

Yes. City of Chino. 3 kids injured when the bullet hit a metal plate and splattered. The shrapnel hit all 3 kids. I believe 1 of them sustained eye damage.
Loaded, round in chamber, safety off, out in the open at an elementary school. Chino PD says safety policies not followed, but declined to say which ones.
Chino PD was very proud that the errant bullet hit a metal plate on the mount and 'disintegrated'. Only the shrapnel hit 3 kids, not a complete round.
Yep, definitely a reason too be proud...

"Rack Ready" in my agency is chamber empty, hammer forward (uncocked) and loaded magazine in place.

In the Chino incident it seems the M4 was not setup properly before being placed in the mount. The mount (I forget the brand) clamps around the buffer tube behind the charging handle, so you cannot work the charging handle while the M4 is mounted.

I've seen them start to pop up in Modesto as well.

The motor LEO's here in Lompoc have had ARs on their bikes for many years.

my city has had them for more than 10 years. they first carried MP5 or similar attached to their radio box. these guys are the First Responders.
                          never could get a picture.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Chino PD carried them on their motorcycles until earlier this year when one of their reportedly highly trained professional officers displayed the motorcycle and mounted gun at a elementary school red ribbon day. Unfortunatley, a chambered round was fired when an inquisitive youngster touched the trigger. Several kids were hurt by what appears to have been bullet fragments.
