Some newbs will hold the rifle in the crux of the elbow and slap a mag in, and end up pulling the trigger right after hitting the bolt catch.

It's pointed upwards. They're just trying to counter a few dummys by that policy.

It could be that the range has some folks looking for an excuse to make an arrest or a story for anti gun venue?
By making the mag stationary. No story can be written or filmed !

If the range actually exists, they are idiots for assuming everyone shoots an AR. My wife's SU16CA can't be split open like they want and it is impossible to reload the mag through the ejection port.

On second thought, perhaps they only assume all AR shooters are idiots that can't be trusted with removing the magazine and everyone else is allowed to drop mags as normal.

I'll put down $ it's not SLOSA. I've shot there for years including last Sunday. No such silly stuff described here going on there.
The RSOs at SLOSA are friendly helpful guys that are totaly AR/AK friendly.

Im not trying to stir the pot but a range that wont let makes you take the upper off to load AR mags also sounds like a place that turns people with AKs away.

ACTUALLY - the rule is in place due to formal complaints to the club by passer-bys/drivers. It is not because the club does not want it. They are jus being good, responsible, neighbors. It is a great, family oriented, club.

I enjoy going to ranges where the RO's are dicks. I just take a copy of the penal code and the range policies with me, and do what i want. If they complain, i hand them one or the other. If they put their hands on me to "remove me" as one of the RO's in socal put it, my buddy takes a picture and the cops come. Its funny to see them sputter and squirm.

As some can tell, i really hate ranges where the RO's go on a power trip
