    buying a firearm

So today I went in to buy a shotgun filled out the paper work the salesmen was reviewing the papers, told me me he couldn't sell me a a firearm today based on the info in the paper work I filled out. Pointed me to the question where I checked yes to "are you a fugitive of the law".i don't know how I messed up on that cause I am not. I was pretty embarrassed and felt really stupid. So the question is will that effect me buying if from somewhere else or can I go back another day? do I have to wait for that paperwork to go though. Because I figure they have to go turn it in.

Telling someone you are a fugitive when you are in fact not does not remove your rights. Similar to how you can't confess to a crime you didn't commit.

That particular store may not trust you now due to your (somewhat embarrassing) mistake, but just go to another FFL.

Even if they turn in the paperwork, which I doubt they will, NICS and CADOJ will quickly realize you aren't actually a criminal.

        Don't worry about it.

Why wouldn't a simple explanation of I made a mistake and then fill out the new paperwork do it.

I'm not worried about being called a fugitive just wondering if would effect my shotgun purchase if I find one in the next week or so

Made plenty of mistakes on DROS many times, an initial and a re-check is perfectly legal. It can be nerve racking sometimes, go slow and be patient. Re-read. Any decent FFL should allow re-checks with initials.

                  Me.

And I don't know what FFLs are trained to do about paperwork and recovery from errors.

That FFL is just being a dick, people make mistakes all the time, he should've just gave you another form.

When I did mine for my shotgun, I also made a mistake. There's a box that says "County" and I misread it as "Country" and enter "USA" instead of "Santa Clara". My FFL caught it and all I had to do was to cross it out, initial and I'm go.

I went in once and tried to quickly rush through the paperwork and had a dyslexic moment. Checked off every box wrong all the way down. You should have seen the guy's face. He laughed and asked me if I was a felon cause that's what I put down. We had a laugh about it and I changed and initialed every single box. DROS went through fine.

I brain farted like that once. The snarky wunderkind and God's gift to firearms simply rolled his eyes and gave me another form.
You may have brain farted, but your clerk was a special kind of stupid.
