Terminologies

I posted this same thread on another forum.

I would like to ask what you folks say to people who are not into target shooting? I cannot say directly to them that I am into "target shooting" or "shooting". If I was to say those, I might end up being misunderstood or misquoted and reported to the law. I might say I am into "plinking". But they do not know what that is......and I will end up having to explain myself all over again. "Plinking" is just shooting away ammos and is not necessarily target shooting. Target shooting itself is a sport. I guess there has to be a better terminology on what we do......

With all of these things that are going on...I would rather not advertise to folks that I am into target shooting or even relay that information over the internet or personal emails. With Dear Leader and his Brown Shirts listening in to all what we say. Heck....you can never tell I might already be pinged that a drone is circling above me with a Hellfire zeroed in on me as we speak. Or even MIBs outside my home listening in.........

If their friends or family I will put it out there that I'm a firearm enthusiast and enjoy heading off to the shooting ranges. At least this way they'll know exactly what you're saying. Of course you'll need to be ready to combat anything they could say about it. I wouldn't worry about drones circling if they wanted you for something they would have done so already .

Why say anything at all to these people if it's not relevant to any discussion? Are you just asking how to announce to random folks that you're into shooting sports? If anything, just say "shooting sports" and then clarify if you're asked for specifics.

More importantly, why in the world are you associating with anyone who would try to "report" you to anyone else if the mention of shooting sports comes up? Find new people to hang out with, or if these people are co-workers you can't avoid, just don't bring it up.

Depends on who's asking. Friends or family - I have no problem telling them I go shooting; most of them already know.

Work or business-related or random strangers - fuhgeddaboudit, I'm not telling them crap. If they ask about my interests, I'll just focus on one of my other hobbies.

Never really had an issue with describing myself as a "Firearms enthusiast" to people I meet who inquire about hobbies.

Being a little contradictory (not to mention HIGHLY PARANOID), aren't you?
If you don't want to advertise, don't.
If you want to communicate in a mature fashion, speak your mind and don't mince your words.
Personally, I am proud of my shooting and gun handling skills and not afraid to tell anyone about it. Educating the uninformed or misinformed public is a good thing.

Something to keep in mind when talking about 'terminologies'.......

Shooting is the physical act of firing a rifle or handgun whether for sport (target shooting) or competition.

What happened at Sandy Hook and the theater in Aurora, Colorado were NOT shootings, no matter what the MSM says. Those were premeditated mass murders by deranged individuals.
If Adam Lanza had driven an SUV through the Sandy Hook School killing all those children, would the MSM have called it a 'driving'? Of course they wouldn't.

Well your friends are your friends, not sure why you'd worry about them turning you in to some authority or whatever because you shoot. If that is a concern, then you need new friends.

As far as classmates, it's none of their business unless there is a very specific reason to make it their business. Surely you have some other hobby you can bring up in the event someone just asks what you do in your spare time.
