The reason that the BATF&E is being so aggressive is because since the school shooting last year when everyone went gun crazy the "80%" market took off like a firestorm. So all these guys with machine shops where like "Dang I can make a boat load of money off this stuff with no major retooling" and the greed took over as well as the "ahh they won't catch me I am just a small time shop" mentality.
well that... and it wasn't illegal...

Its still not... just the ATF has now clarified (translation: said after the fact) button push CNC rentals are not cool (ergo; you should stop if you are doing them). I think, as of today, if you taught a class on finishing your lower where people used jigs and power tools (themselves / on their own lower) that the ATF wouldn't get involved.

Too much speculation. For all I know the machine shop could have been making anything from fully automatic weapons to parts for skateboards.

You paperweight owners need to get together and do a group buy on a mini mill. Then take turns using it. I would of donated mine. Traded it for ammo 3 months ago.

I like this idea. Then everyone is a owner of said machine. If you want out you can always sell your ownership, kinda like a timeshare except no seminar.

Well, that...or some good solid red blooded Americans saw a perfectly legal opportunity to pursue the American Dream, and are now being penalized for it. But whatever. I guess it's greedy to want better for yourself and your family, when it does absolutely nothing negative to anyone else.

I'm surprised this isn't more well known. Quite a few shops have been raided in the past few weeks. As to whether ATF knew about something illegal, I have no idea, so I've decided not to speculate on any of the rumors. I doubt it's just to slow down 80% lowers though since not all shops are hit.

What I've heard that has some significance, that I think more people are aware of, is that most of these shops hit were producing the 80%ers and then allowing people to use their machines to finish it and one of those wonderful agencies decided that that would essentially be selling an unregistered 100% lower.

I know all of my details aren't exact. Hopefully someone comes along that really knows what happened.

I was thinking that same thing. Group buy a decent small (not mini) mill.

Hmmm, /me wonders when ATF will raid ROHG arms operation. Seems they be doing future builders a favor right there.

Did I say that out loud? Oh snap!

Given the kind of reports that have come out of that place, it will go last, they want those out there to keep functional guns off the street.

I don't recall any Temecula machine shops offering to finish 80% lowers nor making the actual 80% lowers
