Optics Planet, first and my last order.

I don't know where else to put this, so it is going here.

Opticsplanet has a good reputation as far as I know, so I had no hesitation in placing an order for 5 items totaling around $500. All were in stock, and I ordered on October 6th, got my confirmation email, and a day or so later got an email that had 2 tracking numbers. Both shipments arrived around the 11th, a nice fast shipment so I was very satisfied there.

Well the 2 shipments contained 1 item each, so I was missing 3 items. I waited a couple of days to see if they would arrive or if I would get a third tracking number. Nothing.

So I check online to see if there is any new info. The order was listed as fulfilled.

I called to find out if they thought they sent 5 items not realizing there was only 2 shipped. The CS Rep explained that the two items I got were drop shipped from other distributors, and the 3 remaining items were coming from their warehouse, which is new. He explained that the items were in stock, he could see notification that they had been boxed, but nothing about them being shipped. He said he would look into it, and to call back if I hadn't heard anything in a couple of days.

After a couple of days and nothing happening, I called again. Same story, but this guy said he would check in with me via email when he finds out what is going on with the package (if/when it was shipped, or why it is being held up). I haven't heard anything.

Then a few days ago I get an email saying:

We were recently notified that you still have not received your package shipping from OpticsPlanet. Please note that FedEx Ground allows up to 14 days for domestic and 45 days for international deliveries. Even though it rarely happens that FedEx SmartPost loses packages that have been consigned to them, they do not allow us to start a claim for the lost package before a certain number of days elapses: 14 days for domestic packages and 45 days for international packages (60 days for shipments to Italy).
That email came in 12 days ago. I never got a tracking number so I can't even say for sure it was shipped. While the other two companies shipped my items and I received them in 5 days (one of those being an RCBS reloading kit that was like 40lbs), I am now at day 23 and still don't have so much as a tracking number from Opticsplanet.

To give them credit, their CS staff is pretty nice and easy to deal with. But I prefer companies like Midway, who's CS staff I have no idea about because I've never needed them.

Hopefully this is just a hiccup in service due to moving to a new warehouse, but honestly I wont be able to find out personally.

FedEx SmartPost is THE WORST. Since you have two shipping companies involved, neither wants to take responsibility for the lost package when it never arrives. Happened to me.

Another time, the deliveryman (in SmartPost's case, your mailman) lied on the tracking and said the business was closed on Saturday, which was bullsh*t, I had a staff of 20 people working... he never even came to the door. Just assumed because it was a Saturday, that the business was closed.

When I order form Optics Planet, I approach them with the same frame of mind as when I order from PSA. You'll eventually get your stuff, but it will definitely be on the slow boat. I just chalk it up to the sacrifice of getting a great deal. On my first order with them, I think it took almost 2 months to get (backordered, but website didn't say so). It did show up, but I learned that I need it quick, I will purchase from somewhere else.

Sucks that you have to go through this, but I'm not really sure this is an Optics Planet issue. I understand you ordered from them, but it sounds like you yourself said FedEx screwed up. Either way, hope it works out.

The FedEx pawnoff, as I see it, didn't happen until 2 weeks after the order, multiple phone calls, and excuses.

The fact that I called in a week after the order was placed and they didn't know why it hadn't shipped, and couldn't give me any kind of tracking or even confirmation was a red flag.

Like I said, the largest of the packages and the two most costly came quickly. They were all on the same order, so why two other companies were on the ball and OP wasn't is beyond me.

I hadn't known about the slowboat reputation of Opticsplanet, but like I said, I wont order from them again.

The other 3 items are small things that aren't a big deal, but are necessary for me to start reloading. So even though I have 95% of the equipment needed, im waiting on these pesky items.

Funny you mention PSA. Ordered a couple cases of 5.45 two weeks ago. After 10 days I called to find out where the ammo was. They said they never received it from the distributor. I guess they don't think of contacting customers when they have shipment delays.

                  Sorry, off topic.

Fair warning, you aren't done. Once you get on their e mail address list they will bomb you once a day with "specials" just for you. No matter how many times you click the unsubscribe you will still get them. I finally had to mark them spam for about a week just to get them moved there automatically.

I purchased a light activator for a surefire firearm light.

                        It was listed as new

The package was labeled with a demo sticker

That was my last order from optics planet.

Amazon probably requires certain things of partners, like prompt shipping. They're far too large of a company to have their name tarnished by lost orders and shipping disputes. Opticsplanet already has a bad rep, they don't mind screwing up a few more orders under their own name.
