People are already doing it, you'd better get used to the idea that citizens will be able to watch the watchers... Your days of having a monopoly on snooping and surveillance equipment are essentially over.

Remote control helicopters are a great way to learn how to handle a basic unmanned aerial vehicle and the quad-copters can make an excellent stable platform for recording/transmitting equipment.

Our local SWAT came to one of my companies lunchtime work morale functions, basically one SWAT guy brought the armored vehicle and one of each of their weapons laid out on a table. It was fun fiddling with his HK416 but I was very surprised to see that it was full auto capable. It also felt very strange playing around with a machine gun and a grenade launcher in the middle of the tech company I work at, surrounded by fellow employees.

Do cops normally lay out a table full of guns for random people to come handle? Maybe it's because we are a Mil contractor tech company. It was awesome anyway.

The first weekend before Halloween my city puts on a neighborhood party at the local park. They have the fire department bring a few trucks.
They also have the police department bring out their toys and do demonstrations including K9 and helicopter rappelling.
They bring out their Lenco Bearcat for the kids to climb in and out of and put out a few tables of their equipment. They have smoke/stun grenades, riot shields, radios, shotguns, M4s, Glocks, etc. spread out on the tables. Most is cabled down but some stuff the kids can try on.

Now back to the topic...

Your average copper in his or her radio car does not need full auto firearms, as the training to employ a FA is far to expensive for every cop to be trained, and there is no real need. A semi auto is best for regular patrol use.

However SWAT or other special units who serve high risk search warrants, and do other high risk entries really do need the capability for FA fire..

Notice I said capability...

I carried a FA Mp/5 when I worked a surveillance team, and while I was on the depts SET..Those who were trained were allowed to carry our issued Mp/5's while working patrol...

It's always better to have the capability, than to be in a situation where you need it, but don't have it.....

I have no issue with having your drone flying around...

You will be bored to tears... Watching cops writing reports, interviewing victims and handling their many many "routine" duties...

You really have no clue as to what cops do .......

I don't believe Law Enforcement needs select fire weapons. Semi-auto is fine, select fire I see no compelling need for in a law enforcement role. SWAT teams I can see where it may be necessary but not for patrol.

It used to be that cops had automatic weapons only pretty much in Commie and third-world countries outside of a few places (like Israel) where there was a compelling need for automatic weapons.

Now of course they are everywhere, but then we live in a soft tyranny now anyway so **** it.

I generally agree, but we don't gain victories by declining to fight battles.

The NRA should have been leading the charge to get rid of the Hughes Amendment starting the day after it supposedly passed.

If you watch the video archive available from C-SPAN, it is clear that the Hughes Amendment did not pass, but because Rangel recorded that it passed, it is considered law. The Supreme Court will not hear arguments pertaining to improper passing of a law, if Congress states that the provision passed then they will accept that.

Battles are won by timing, not just being right. The Hughes Amendment fiasco is normal policy for our government. Look at Obamacare and the last 2 elections to see how worse the situation has become.

A friend and I spent about $2k on helicopters last year. Before they even arrived we had plans to equip them with all kinds of goodies. After blowing another $1k for replacement parts we gave up our dreams of flying. Now they sit in pieces on a shelf in the shop.

How about the officers who assaulted Hope Steffey? They stripped her naked and left her in the cell alone for hours... She lapsed in and out of consciousness and said she may have been violated. Who knows what happened to her on the ride back to the station because the deputy's dash camera "malfunctioned" and was off the entire time. She believes that they did penetrate her with their fingers/hands while she was in the jail cell. This is technically a sexual assault.

I've become pretty proficient with a basic model helicopter and will eventually branch out into quad-copters which offer a much more stable flying platform.
