About a week ago was a news story talking about that young Pakistan girl, Mulala? , well they pointedly said the Taliban shooter that shot her, shot her with a "Colt 45!"

    1873 SAA revolver?

Because it sounds scary and allows the newscasters to wet their knickers.
Which I think gives them a little kinky thrill. That's why they like saying it so much.

its better than what they used to say.... and at least it is accurate.
(it was an ar15 assault rifle pistol capable of shooting thousands of rounds a second!)

I still call my 1100's and 11-87's automatics. In the shotgun world calling a semi auto an auto is normal.

When they start describing the type of transmission a getaway car has, maybe we can forget the extra ordinary description of guns used in crimes.

I'd actually prefer people had full auto guns. From what I've seen at the range, a shooter would pull the trigger, maybe hit once and miss 9 times, and have to reload. I'd bet they'd miss 10 times.

Or, worst case, they shoot 10 bullets into one guy and then have to reload, instead of 10 bullets into 5 different people.

32%???? That is a pathetic number that I find appalling! We need to do something about this!!! I'd like to see it at least 85%.
The news sensationalizes things so you don't change the channel. If you're not scared, they don't have your attention.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

When HK introduced the USP in 1993, the term, "Self Loading Pistol" emerged. It didn't catch on.

I feel that's a more accurate description and I personally use it whenever I discuss pistols.

Alternatively, you can also use the word, "pistol" and give a one sentence clarification to non-gun owners and uninformed gun owners. Pistol = self loading. Revolver = revolver.

The media will always call pistols, Glocks.

                      2 quick thoughts:

1.) The government will be quick to point out that a Marine with several tours in Afghanistan, fighting for our country, going on to being a teacher (noble profession) was killed senselessly by a kid with access to a firearm. Even though they didn't care about us 3 weeks ago when they tried to block us from the memorials.

2.) This is the distraction they were looking for with the obamacare train wreck.

                      Oh look, a shiny object!

                      Deep breath.
                      Just venting.
                      Back to work.
                      Ready for the onslaught.
Yeah, even gun owners will call a 1911 a Colt .45.
Some people even call it, "beer."

                            OP, Quoted from handgun website:

Colt pistols have long represented the gold standard in magazine-fed semi-automatic handguns.

The term semi-automatic is a long time used term that is very common. So I guess you should be upset with companies like Colt for using that term.

No, it is about posting correct information and not FUD, which is what the other person corrected.
