From the elaborate form of the trigger I would say it is a Smith & Wesson top break. The H&Rs and IJs had fairly flat trigger sides. They were economy guns all along. Smiths had that form of trigger.No one arrives in Hell surprised. (St. Robert Bellarmine)Comment

This looks like an H&R. I had one (antique), which I sold. It was a well made gun, though you'd be wise to shoot black powder only.
They did make these well into the 20th century, later models should be (light) smokeless load safe.
I would stick to .32 S&W short in the older guns if they're okay with smokeless.
