Mossberg. For me, the safety is FAR easier to use, especially when just awoken by a sound in the night or with gloved hands or one handed, for whatever reason. I'm a Mossberg guy...have had a bunch of 500's and a 590 and am looking to get into a 590A1 Mariner, soon. Probably going to get a longer magazine tube and shorter barrel for one of my 500's instead though as the price is much better that way.

870 first since it's cheaper. Then learn how to effectively use it. Benelli later for backup. One gun may never be enough.

        10mm. Because .45ACP just doesn't cut it anymore. <Trailerparktrash>

Neither shotgun. Person should spend the money on sufficent ammo and range time to acquire confidence and accuracy with the handgun they already have.

The debate is over a shotgun. What would be the more appropriate choice: Benelli M4 or a Remington 870P.

This would be used as a home defense weapon.

Sounds just like a friend of mine. Per my suggestion, he keeps an 870P stored in “police ready”.
