Seeing how he said his dad didn't like the kick of the 30.06 that would rule out the BAR.

I've shot a full auto Thompson and they are heavy and the muzzle rise is a lot bigger for me than when I shot 9mm FA. But the weight of the Thompson does offset the .45 and made it a pretty nice choice for those who chose to carry it in WW2.

My Dad navigated bomber convoys to the Pacific / Okinawa in WW2. One of the first to land at Okinawa, he was given a Thompson and a bag of clips, told to practice right away and keep it ready because the air field was still being attacked. It was his issue weapon when there, he made many convoy runs but always had to leave the Tommy on the island. He liked it a lot.
(RIP LtCmndr R.A.Scott, USN D6/23/06, Thank you Dad for everything).

Try the Gun Store in Las Vegas for Tommy gun full auto fun. About $100 for some shooting time, much more fun than the casinos! Tommy full auto is easy to control, xlnt with a classic old time feel and quality to it.

I was just looking at some of these today. If someone made that PG with a fin on it so it was like an MMG that would be perfect. Then just use the smooth forend to do away with the forward grip. And your ready to rock.

I was able to shoot a full auto Thompson at a machine gun shoot in Nevada a couple of years ago, what a hoot!

is it just me, or the thompson stock is one of the most uncomfortable to use?

I got to handle some in the past, and they really don't like to stay on your shoulder

thank god one other person that finds fault with the thompsons smooth buttplate that contsantly squirts itself over my shoulder
                        it shoudl have been serated

tommys are neat but way too heavy mag changes are slow drums are tight the spring is very strong the cutts compensator barely does anything

to me the m3 is better ,uglier but better

The tommy curved steel buttplate does slide down your shoulder! There is a pinch point at your thumb joints at the top of the PG / butt gap too. Just 1920's "ergonomics". I think the military steel buttplate is more focused towards hitting someone with it in than working good on the shoulder. Agreed the mag change is slow. But hey, think about a motorcycle or car from the 1920-30 era compared to the ones now! Tommy has the "romance" ! : )
