Sold only to those on the side of law and order! This ad is Awesome!

They forgot to add - "shooting from the hip as shown in the ad allows you to spray bullets randomly causing maximum carnage to the bandits."

Yeah, well they did a lot of things back then that we couldn't do now.

Thompson himself held a public shoot and had a couple cops try out Thompsons on a Ford that he drove up to simulate shooting at bank robbers trying to flee. People seemed mighty impressed to see those .45 rounds ripping through the sheet metal and exiting the other side (at a time when .38s were the norm), and the engine popping and bursting into flames was another sight that made police agencies jump all over the Chicago typewriter.

I used to have a Thompson, a semiauto one made in the 90s. Dang this was heavy! (but a blast to shoot)

not having seen a thompson for sale here in.. ca, is it legal to buy one out of state and import said...i know even jumping through all the hoops.

or is there something about them that keeps it out of ca?

mags (stick mags that is..maybe even a drum) can be made (10 round) legal out of state.

sure the forward grip has to go. how about length? surly it meets the 30in min.

Sorry, no Tommys for us here. Detatchable mag + pistol grip + centerfire + Cutts Compensator is a "flash suppressor " = no way.
But a rimfire one would be OK.
How would you like a Ruger 1022 that looks like this?

              Dead wrong

You can get them legal here 2 ways:

1)If you want all of the fancy stuff on there like the one pictured above all you need to do is add a locking device which I have seen many people do.

2)You can buy one w/o a PG and add on a MMG style grip and run a detach mag which seems like most people choose to do. The hardest part is finding cheap mags but there are people who have them. I beleive Lanworld sells 10 round drums for 165.

I might be dead wrong...hmmm...maybe...but thanks for thinking the above photo is a real Thompson! I worked hard to make it that way! The above photo is a Ruger 10/22 .22LR rimfire with a complete bolt-on stock set that I am working on. Legal to own just like this with out strange rear grips, mag locks, horizontal front grip only etc. : ))

Yea, that did look odd to me but I got what you're getting at. I've seen 10/22s transfer into all sorts of things. Anyway a Thompson just isn't the same to me when it's not shooting .45

Wish I had a Tommy in .45 (champagne!) but beyond my reach.
On my beer budget, the good 'ole 10/22 will have to do. : ))

Hey, how about a new rim fire .45 cartridge? (Or 9mm etc) You could drive a bus through that loophole. Maybe new ammo is the answer to the PRK regs? : ))

Still one of my most favorite full auto shooters when the opportunity presents itself. There is a quality to it that is simply sweet.

My Dad carried a Thompson in WW2 said it was heavy but he liked it for those little excursions on islands in the pacific. He was young, small and didn't like the kick of the 30.06.
I've only held one and didn't get to shoot it, But dammm thier cool.
