I am purchasing a shotgun from a friend but he never did a ppt when he bought it. He purchased it from a friend of his and was told he didn't need to do a ppt due to it being a long gun. My question is should I ppt , can I ppt even if he is not the original owner or just buy it from him without any transfer paperwork dros ect... Shotgun is a newer winchester sxp. Thanks

Seller is NOT asked for proof he registered the weapon during a sale. YES you need to PPT and the only thing you have to worry about is getting your money back if the weapon turns up listed as stolen. -
Legally you have to ppt it. The other way is a crime and is not recommended. The ppt also protects you just in case it's hot.I am purchasing a shotgun from a friend but he never did a ppt when he bought it.
