    Evil AK-47 hunting accident

Teen Shot, Killed In Hunting Accident
Grandfather Says His Gun Accidentally Discharged

    POSTED: 3:36 pm CDT June 12, 2008
    UPDATED: 5:47 pm CDT June 12, 2008
LAVACA COUNTY, Texas -- A 14-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed in a hunting accident by his grandfather, investigators said.

According to the Lavaca County Sheriff's Office, Taylor Michalec's grandfather said he was walking behind the teen when the trigger on his AK-47 assault rifle snagged a branch and discharged, striking the teen in the back.

The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon near County Road 290, about five miles west of Moulton, Texas, about 100 miles east of San Antonio.

Both his father and grandfather tried to administer CPR, but when EMS responders arrived, the teen was pronounced dead. Michalec had just completed his freshman year at Steele High School, where he was a member of the football team.

Lavaca County investigators said they will not file any charges on the boy's grandfather because the shooting appeared to be an accident.

Wow, notice the evil AK-47? This almost wouldn't of happened if a branch wouldn't of snagged the trigger of any other rifle... Poor muzzle control and lack of awareness (safety off) led to a terrible accident.

There's no excuse for having the muzzle pointing at the kid's back.

Grandpa needs his guns taken away, this was a stupid, ignorant accident that shouldn't have happened, and his fault. Doesn't matter what kind of gun...although I must have missed the evil part, was that stated?

Proper gun safety not observed. Tragic.

Dont care what gun it was, there is NO excuse to not have the safety on, and then remember the next golden rule, always keep the muzzle pointed down.
Tragic, sad accident that should never have happened.

                      yes the pain..

but that does not excuse the old man for not having the safety on,
and keeping the gun pointed away from people...

but then the branch that caught the trigger could have pulled the gun inline with the boys back? just playing --what if--

i was not there so i can not say what did or did not happen.

jesus... what a sad thing to happen. there is no excuse for what happened and my condolensces go out to the family.

seriously, why did it have to be an "assault weapon"?

Aside from that, why would someone go hunting with an AK-47?
7.62x39 is like a .30-30 only cheaper. AK is like a cheap lever action with extra coolness points and faster rate of fire.

What if they weren't hunting at all, just going shooting, and an accident just happened. Then the grandpa made up the stick story, and the dad isn't going to send his dad to jail is he?? I dunno, seems too stupid to believe!!
