i think the sound of chambering a round may scare the prey off. if i were hunting (and i don't, except for "terrorists") i'd have one in there but i'd be damn sure that my weapon was on safe.

I don't care if he had the safety off or not, the four rules are what they are, and in the order they're in for a reason.

What? If you wait until you've got an animal in your sights to load, you're not going to shoot much... Deer hunting, we always loaded before we enter the woods. No sense announcing to every white tail in 40 acres that you've arrived and are ready to kill one of them. If they were after deer (kinda early for that, though), I could see leaving the safety off. I had a white tail once that I had to take a long time to shoulder my shotgun, every time I moved the slightest bit he'd hear me and stare right at me, ready to bolt. Finally had a loud truck go by on the road, it was loud enough to cover my (non-existent ) noise, even from a mile away and I now have a nice 8-point mound on my wall.

When you hunt you always have a round in the chamber with the safety on (Don't rely on your safety, It can fail) keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
I feel sorry for the kid and his family about this preventable accident.

Nah, my AK's safety is actually pretty quiet. It doesn't go "click" like most safeties do.

That truly is unfortunate and my heart goes out to the family. Wow. I can only imagine how traumatizing that is.

Doesn't really sounds like an accident to me...

I have seen some safetys that you almost have to hit with a hammer to get them to move.

They talk like this wouldn't have happened with any "non-assault" rifle..

Very sad, and to think this could have been prevented.

I'd be very happy to never again read of another of these accidental deaths...

No offense, but if you know and follow the 4 rules, I hope that was a cheap camera you shot in your avatar, honestly, it's bothersome.
