    sks detachable mag

Is it illegal to install a 10rd detachable mag?

    even in its original form?

My guess it's a no cause there is no pistol grip.

According to California Penal Code section 12276: any SKS that has been modified to accept a detachable magazine is considered an assault weapon.

So detachable mag on a SKS is verboten in Cali.

The Yugoslav SKS as with the Zavasta SKS Carbine 59/66 with the grenade launcher is considered a destructive device and illegal in California. http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/zastava

I bought a Yugo 59/66 at Big 5. It has the grenade launching muzzle device replaced with a muzzle brake.

You can turn a detachable mag into a pinned one though. But its easier to just stick with the original fixed mag.

The yugo 59/66 is in a gray area it doesn't say SKS on it but every one considers it a SKS.I wouldn't want to test the court systems.

They won't be happy until they turn every gunowner into a criminal.

ANY DETACHABLE MAGAZINE ON AN SKS IS ILLEGAL in CA (unless you pin the magazine to become a fixed magazine).

FYI, I did change my original magazine with a tapco 10/20. I shaved it down and loved how it looked, but the loading of clips was definitely not as fluid as the original 10-round magazine. I also did love the look of the 10/20 magazine, but after taking it to the range and experiencing some FTF, I decided to stay with original.

In other words, stay with the original design for the 10-round fixed hinged magazine.
