And?
Care to explain how that is in any way relevant?
I'm curious because right now it just looks like you're being a snob and a jerk.sigpic NRA Benefactor Life Member / CRPA Life Member / SAF Life Member

Actually, that does count
This is likely a good warning to the others who feel the need to bash on our new members. If it isn't strong enough of one to them... then they can't be saved. Now where was I...
@ Likewater - If you feel like coming down for some fun in San Diego I have been putting on some events. Maybe we can help re-welcome you to CGN. Check out the San Diego community sub forum. Just had one down here last night. BBQ and outdoor shooting at P2K Range in El Cajon. We had burgers, dogs, some more prizes and some awesome guests. Local vendors came out to shoot with us as well and some chapter sponsors and the host of 'Garage Hour' on 1170AM who promotes our chapter meets and events on the air (Saturdays @ 6pm). Come down and shoot with us. We lock down the training range until 9pm outside and have the A/C cooled classroom to hang out in.Comment

Sounds like you made up your mind about the place before you ever opened the door and were (rudely) asked to shut it.
It's not a fancy Scottsdale Gun Club, or some place where the world's rich go shoot sporting clays, but it has a lot of good things going for it as well.
If it only takes one jerk having a bad day to make you scrub a shooting range off your list, you aren't going to have many places to shoot after you visit each range once.Comment

Doesn't sound like he had his mind made up prior to going at all. He did go all the way down to get a membership when told he could. If one employee tells me one thing in a nice manner and then I get there and a different one basically undoes all of the professionalism in a matter of minutes I wouldn't stick around either. The fact it isn't a fancy place to shoot really is of little matter. In fact, a smaller operation should be more inclined to provide better service.Sounds like you made up your mind about the place before you ever opened the door and were (rudely) asked to shut it.

I'm going to try to get this thread a little back on track and tell the OP to give it one more try.
Yeah, the range certainly could use some work but it is a real fun place to shoot. I think that is more a product of the members than anything else, there are some great people up there and I always meet someone new and learn something every time I go. It is nice that you can go 365 days a year.
As for the RSO's, there's one or two that really come across as kind of douchy. They were that way when I joined to a degree but once they were giving me the tour and they realized, probably by the questions I asked, that I wasn't a complete noob and had a moderate understanding of the 4 safety rules then they started to lighten up a bit.
I'm not tying to make an excuse for them but I am sure they are slammed with all the new shooters and I've been around when some people come up and asked the most ridiculous questions.
Regardless, if you feel that strongly about it, don't go back. But, to me, the great time I have and the people I meet while shooting there far outweigh an RSO being a prick.Comment

I have been a member for many years and it is a nice place to go. I do agree the structures are in need of some work. This is especially true for the little 22 range. The ROs are fine but you have to get to know them and some are better than others.
Sorry OP that you were treated badly.NRA Life Member

Apparently the one negative Rainbow experience outweighs the several positive experiences (mine included) that are summarized in this thread.I'm going to try to get this thread a little back on track and tell the OP to give it one more try.

Again, you get one chance to make a first impression. Being pushed out of the door for the most part is not OK. Anywhere. Also, something tells me this thread doesn't contain all of the experiences of customers that frequent that place. Just a hunch. Let's not forget others in THIS thread also mentioned a similar experience with the lacking and or flat out rude customer service. It isn't about your experience. It is about how the OP was treated.Comment

Actually not at all. I wasn't expecting the place to have valet parking, five course meal options and massages. It's pretty clear just from looking on thier site that they provide mediocre offerings at best. I think you may have missed the point. The overriding issue was the piss poor demeanor of the employee. You simply don't treat customers that way. I did nothing more than open a door to an establishment fully intending to lay down some cash and become a member. What the place looked like was only mentioned to give credence to my point that at first glance, the place looked suspect. Obviously I overlooked that fact and made my way inside to sign a new membership. Again, it was what happened at that point forward which helped me decide never to return.Sounds like you made up your mind about the place before you ever opened the door and were (rudely) asked to shut it.

As for places to shoot, we all make choices in life. I simply choose to give my hard earned money to businesses that earn it.Comment

Thank you for the offer and I will seriously consider it. I actually live in North County San Diego so you're not far.Actually, that does count

I don't have a dog in this fight, being at the other end of the state, but would like to remind you of this old military adage... "One 'aw, crap' cancels a hundred 'attaboys'." Despite all the positive experience from others, the OP's first impression was obtained from someone who presented a very unprofessional face for Duncan's Gun Range. I can't blame him for wanting to spend his cash elsewhere. I can't blame him for telling others about his bad experience and urging them to do likewise, because that's what customers who have bad experiences do.
Businesses that forget this, along with commercial adages such as, "Each customer tells ten others" (more like thousands of others given today's information systems) eventually become extinct. Perhaps some of Duncan's good customers might want to remind the range of that.Last edited by Grumpyoldretiredcop; 08-24-2013, 9:53 PM.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

Great post. Some of the people think because they have a (insert number here) post count that they can badmouth others or tell them to SD&STFU because of their low post count. What does the OP's post count have to do with how he was treated or what his post was about?
@Negolien so you seriously went CSI on him to see what his other posts were? What did you accomplish by doing this? You found his others posts were in 2A and he is some how "owned" now? Grow up.
A lot of you have one hell of an attitude especially towards new members. What for? Does it make you guys feel a bit better that you have 1 or 2k posts? Post count does not equate to knowledge or seniority nor does it make anyone any more of an authority on this board. I bet I could look through most peoples and find hundreds of "LOL" or "cool" posts. I guess those add up to bravado and awesome factor.
We are supposed to be a community. Not and old boys' club. He already got that treatment at the range. If the OP had an issue at a local establishment and posted on a California community forum you sure make it unwelcoming for people to want to stay. What should his first post have been to appease you all? Should it have been something about his first AR? Probably not. Someone would just say something about how they dislike his handguard or stock. Should it have been about 2A? Nah, someone would say his opinion was crap.
Also what would his "novice" status at the range have to do with him being treated unfairly? I guess we should all be born with operator skills and not need to start somewhere.
Making excuses for an establishment is just as bad. Who cares if he has a dry sense of humor (the RSO). Not everyone can pick up on that even if that was the case and not everyone should have to. In fact, nobody should. He is a customer. Or was a potential one. I guess California gun owners are so well off with their rights and freedom coupled with the endless amount of money that shops have they can be rude now.
OP, sorry you were treated like crap and thank you for the warning.
We were all new to the forums once. And I kind of wonder about some of the members who have high post counts yet have been here not that long.
I guess posting +1 and
and
in threads really adds so much to a conversation. It took me a long time to get where I am at (to include a few pissing contests and 1 temp ban) I read alot but for the most part unless I have something to add to a discussion I dont often post. You look at some members post percentage and it is kinda insane.
But what do I know, only been a member here since Oct 25th of 2005. There are alot of older members than me who may agree."You see in this world theres two kinds of people my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig... You Dig" Blondie from TGBUComment
