    first gun :D

Hey just turned 18 two weeks ago and finally purchased my first gun Monday! I went to big 5 and picked out a Mossberg "security" 500A.

I can pick it up on the 20th

aanyways just wanted to brag and maybe get a few tips.
I want to get a knoxx stock and a surefire forend in the next couple weeks.

and I was also wondering on where the best place to go to get some lessons.. I have used and practiced with M14's while in JROTC but never used a shotgun. My local range has classes for $50/hour, is that my best bet or should i look on the NRA website or something?

Not much instruction needed with a scattergun. Point the bead at what you want to destroy, and pull the trigger. For best results, use 00 or 000 buck.

Sweet ... the 500A is a shoulder kicker! That was my second long gun that I bought back in 1985 or so and it's still kicking my shoulder.

lol well i dont plan to take it out at all unless going to the range or something. My mom doesnt even want me to have one, but i really wanted to get one for home defense...just in case. I live in a good neighborhood but i still like the idea of being prepared.

I guess, whats the best home defense ammo?
I have been reading different things..a few people say 00 buckshot

Treat and Respect that shotgun. Learn and live by the firearms Safety rules whenever you are handling any weapon. Search all the bad stuff that has happened "By Accident" to people with guns. RESPECT your gun ALWAYS.
and like many have said it, Be safe... and congrats on your first gun...

How to shoot a shotgun 101.

Also start with Birdshots so it's not so brutal and till you get used to your shotgun.

                        good choice kid

I think you should observe gun saftey, and self-teach yourself on shooting.

Good pick up! After you get use to that thing get yourself a Remington 870 Wingmaster.

Great Choice. My first gun ever was a Mossberg 590 Persuader. I thought that was the end of that, but was I ever wrong. Trust me, you're gonna want more guns after the first.

On a side note, they let you shoot m14's in JROTC. Is this High School or College??? I was a member of my JROTC Rifle Team and we had a 25yd indoor range under our bleachers, but that was mainly for air competition.
