Safety at gun stores/shops

So I was at a gun store the other day and it was semi crowded. I noticed a guy at the counter purchasing a firearm and had his finger on the trigger and pointing it at the clerk helping him. He then started sweeping everyone in the store. I figured he was new, but then he started talking about owning a bunch of firearms and etc I was like *face palm*.
I wanted to say something to him but I didn't want to embarrass the man, or be "that guy or safety sally" cause the clerk checked it. But still if it was at the range with a loaded gun he might have hurt someone. So I waited till he left and asked the clerk in a polite way if he noticed and why he didn't say anything. He said he was so immune to it cause it happens so often. The guys that work there are very nice and are safe minded. It was just the customer.
What should I have done? What would you guys have done? Should the guys working there have said anything?

Immediately do a face plant on the floor or seek immediate cover.

You could ask him to please not point the gun at you.

Most gun stores have a designated area where they consider it to be safe to point a gun (which is generally pointed away from customers behind the counter). The fact that the person helping the customer wasn't paying attention and allowed it is the problem. I would have mentioned it in front of the customer and counter help for safetly and educational purposes

I always say something, because I prefer to embaras someone slightly over being shot or rendering first aid to someone who has been shot.

You don't have to be a jerk, but I firmly tell people, you are pointing that at me, or someone else, point it in a safe direction.

Happened to me at turners once, the guy barely spoke English and was looking at a Daniel defense AR. He turns around with finger on trigger point at random stuff around the store. He swings the muzzle by me and i duck and look at him like wtf!? The turners employee immediatly saw that and took the rifle away from the man. Smh he was asking questions like is it full auto, how much ammo can the "clips" hold smh

I call people out if I see them use the restroom without washing their hands. I absolutely do the same when someone is being unsafe with a weapon.

Okay maybe that stupid gun safety test isn't so bad after all. Never had to do it due to military but way to many idiots out there. Just because you can own a gun doesn't me you should own a gun

I generally try to be a MYOB, live and let live kinda person. Generally. We all have our bad days. But I absolutely draw the line when someone points a gun at me. I don't care where you are, what you're doing or who you're with. Point a gun at me and I will be VERY vocal about it. And I even consider it my responsibility. Maybe if I call you out on it...embarrass you enough about it...you will get it through your thick head that you don't ever point a gun at anything you're not willing to destroy. Perhaps it will or has saved someone's life.

I would have said something to the employee in front of the customer. I was at Bass Pro one with with a buddy and his GF. We were checking out the pellet guns, and he starts flat out aiming at people. So I grabbed the barrel, shoved it up and asked him what the hell he was thinking. His reply was "First of all, it's not loaded dude. Second of all, it's just a pellet gun man. Relax." As soon as I walked away he started doing it again.
That was the first and last time I ever walked into a store that sold any kind of pellet gun/firearm.

Some people are oblivious. Others are fully aware and just idiots.

The guys that work there are very nice and are safe minded. It was just the customer.

If he didn't fix the situation really fast... they maybe nice but they are not safe minded.

There is no excuse for him not checking the guy straight away. There is no immune.

As others have said, it's our duty to call it if we see it not being dealt with. Gotta look after each other.

Personally, I would go have a chat with the manager.

Definitely say something. I don't like having firearms pointed at me. None of the people I know like it either. No need to be rude about it, just be firm. Most stores have a safe target on an upper shelf behind the counter. I just point at it and say, "Hey partner, do me a favor would you? Aim it at that."

Sometimes they give me a look of gratitude because they weren't sure where the correct direction was to point it.
