What type of targets are you hitting at 500 yards (size)?
Do you have a magnifier or just the red dot?
I'm wanting to do some longer range shooting with the AR I posted above but figured I'd need a scope to get any real distance out of it.

Both are fine pieces of kit from what I understand. For me personally, I've never quite been able to bring myself to spend $400.00 to $600.00 on an unmagnified red dot optic that I'm almost certain to never have to use in any real world self defense situation. I have a Primary Arms Aimpoint knock-off on my AK and a Vortex Sparc that occasionally gets put on my AR when I get tired of the irons. They both hold zero and essentially do their job, though neither is admittedly "the real thing." Still, for what I do with those rifles, which is essentially paper punching at the range, they work.

One day I might spring for a real T1 micro but honestly, that $600.00 can get me any number of other gun things that I might actually use so it's really a back burner type of proposition.

Close up prefer Eotech. A little distance prefer Aimpoint. The solution was the Aimpoint, it did the best of both.

I shot both and I prefer Aimpoint.

1. the 'looking thru the tube' thing re-enforces the proper shouldering and cheek weld. This is the right method since you're supposed to 'bring the gun to the eye' instead of twisting your head to find your sights.

2. in bright sun light sometimes the Eotech recticle washes out a little more easier than the 'dot in tube' design. And tube sights usually come with sun shade and polarizing lenses.

3. I trained myself to shoot with both eyes open even with highly magnified optics. tube or holographic 1x sights make no difference.

4. Personally I don't see the 65MOA circle really do anything. For me it made the sight picture more busy than needed. i like the ranging dots on other Eotech models better. At least they serve some purpose. What does 65MOA circle do? I might as well point shoot if that target is that close.

5. Eotech recticle looks fuzzy. I like the sharp round dot of the Aimpoint better. I like the UltraDot's perfect & sharp round dot best.

6. 30mm tube offers more & cheaper mounting options.

7. tube sights are more protected from lenses breaking/chipping.

I have the Aimpoint Pro. I really like it. Great price ($363 from AZArmament) and it includes a QRP2 mount.

I'd suggest you see if you can try them out first by checking with friends and such.

This. And on that note....

I had an EoTech XPS2-0 and sold it 2 days later. I recently bought an Aimpoint PRO and I'm keeping that instead. The XPS cost me $402 shipped, and the Aimpoint was $362 shipped, so price difference really wasn't a factor.


There were 2 main things that made me go with the Aimpoint.....

1) I just couldn't get adjusted to the EoTech, no matter how I used it and trying to get my eyes to relax when using it. I'm used to red dots and the 2 MOA dot is very small but sharp, so it's actually very nice to look at and very easy to use.

One guy mentioned that they like to keep both eyes open, so they went with the EoTech. With my Aimpoint PRO, I can also keep both eyes open and still clearly see the red dot in focus without any strain to my eyes.

2) The battery life is just awesome on the Aimpoints. I leave mine in and will deal with replacing it 3 years from now. Can't leave an EoTech on unless you want dead batteries hours later.


IMO, the XPS looked a lot better on my AR, but that doesn't count for much if it doesn't work for you. Like mentioned above, try them both out and see what works for you.

own both but aimpoint{my M3} wins and stood up most if not all demands

bomb proof construction
battery life
sharp red dot in any light condition

down side is weight on the M comp series, couple with a magnifier can be a bit much for not so "athletic type"

but the Micro can fit that requirement to reduce weight and save some rail space

eotech just didn't fit my needs

As huckberry668 stated quote "Eotech reticle looks fuzzy" along with I don't see the 65MOA circle really do anything.

For me in certain bright light the reticle blooms.. bleeding over into the center red dot causing that fuzzyness

square shape ..edges tend to rub or scratch/ snag easy leaving behind shinny edges were others will see you first before you see them and yes battery drains off quickly.. up side to Eotech is large sight radius, light weight
