I actually did that. A-1 had some good prices on .380 and Midway had some tulammo that I didnt really want, but bought for plinking (right price).

Let me clarify what I meant by "stockpiling".
I have a lot of ammo in various calibers (a safe worth of .308, 7.62x39, etc.).
I DO NOT buy ammo to keep for a zombie apocalypse or social unrest event.
I buy ammo to shoot it. The ammo that I am missing in my "stockpile" that I seek is .223, .22, etc.
I actually have some .223 (about 100 rounds), but that is less than I shoot in trip to the range.
I have PM'ed several Calgunners about buying ammo from them as we speak.

Lol, you want proof of that? Go to any gun store.
          .270, .410, 30-30, 45-70 seem to be plentiful.
I see .38 special all of the time...that surprises me.

OP, now that your rant is over (it is, isn't it?), what is your course of action now?

You can't really just buy what you're going to shoot... at least not now. When you find a decent deal, go for it. I was in a similar situation wherein I wanted to train 4 kids this summer. I had a decent stash and was able to acquire 2,500+ rds of .22 LR. Not at the best price but not that bad. My kids were happy but now I have to replenish because we blew through close to 5,000 rds. Oh well. I still have some left but will be buying as I see decent deals.

            Good luck!

Cabela's has some PMC .223 for $8.99 a pack. Not the best price, but it's decent.

As for the .22LR, should've jumped on those deals at shopdunns, 10 bricks of fed for $170 shipped. Heck, even Turners was selling a brick of fed for $17.99 during the Christmas week in 2012.

You should've seen the look people were giving me when I carried 5 bricks of fed and 10 boxes of CCI blazer alu 9mm lugers ($11.99 ea) to the register.

I'd suggest as the others said. When it becomes available to stockpile some ammo. I shoot every two weeks and haven't skipped a beat. My kids are just getting into shooting, so I'll pickup bulk .22 when I can find it for decent prices. I don't need it right away, but it's constantly replenishing the stock I shoot.
As a new firearm owner, I started this year without any 22 ammo at all. Checking the Deals section helped me obtain quite a bit of ammo at reasonable prices. Also it helps to check your LGS.

Find it cheap and stack it deep! If you find a deal, see if that's the price to pay and BUY IT! 22 ammo still sells out in a matter of minutes. The situation has gotten better BUT the hoarding mentality is still very much alive.

Sage advice. Say there are bricks of 22 or loose boxes of 22, which do you get? If you buy online the bricks seem to be cheaper. So what if you have extra sitting around, it's better than not having any at all.

Before you say Yes to the "deals" double check the prices. Seems like the prices from the Deals section usually beat out the Private Ammo sales section and that's after shipping.

As for 22 ammo, you missed some great deals earlier in the evening.

You just need to be more diligent, Slickguns posted the Cabelas deal on 1200rds PMC Bronze for $499.99, with code "clubfive" for $5 flat shipping it worked out to $512 OTD.

If you are in the sac area, I will donate 100rnds of .22 so your kid can go shooting. If you are not in the sac area, I will give it to another calgunner that wants to take a kid out shooting, not to save
