Try legally buying ammo as an IL resident without a FOID.
A non resident must posses a license to own/carry a firearm in their home state, an IL hunting license or proof that they are participating in a sanctioned shooting event/competition to purchase ammunition in IL. Also, I believe ammo can be purchased at a gun show by a non resident without one of the aforementioned documents. I know this because I used to visit IL a lot before I moved here (I live on the WI/IL border). A gun store owner and myself looked up the law. The best option is to go out of state to buy ammo (as a non resident) or have someone with a FOID purchase it for you. Also, without a FOID you're technically not even allowed to take your firearm out of its case unless you're at a designated shooting range or hunting grounds.

To the person that bought ammo without a FOID...the store broke the law. Honestly, they probably just looked the other way as there isn't written documentation that the person presented a FOID. It's kind of like the honor system. For example, I've seen employees at larger retail stores that have a register prompt for a FOID # just skip it.

BTW, it took me an hour to buy ammo at "Walshart" the other day as they couldn't find anyone with a FOID nor any employees from WI to sell it to me. However, if you live outside of "Chicagoland" the laws are better than CA...minus the whole FOID crap.
The truth will not find you. You must seek it on your own.

BTW, they've had a FOID card for a long time. This isn't new.

I still have my Illinois FOID from the 70's.

In all honesty I rather have a FOID card here and be able to buy any firearms that are not neutered and any capacity magazine.

I have no idea how hard to is to get a FOID card Im "assuming" its pretty simple, Just don't have a criminal background. Im probably wrong though

            You dont want FOID.

The law says 30 days for issue from the state police, but there ate scores of people that are at the 6 month mark and have been tirned into felons because they havent issued the new card yet.

              No, no, no, and no.

Allowing them any type of FOID card to buy guns and ammo(like Il and MA already have) is like another version of the "safe" roster.

Buffalo Rock range in Ottawa? I used to shoot in their action rifle matches in the mid 80s. Great place and great people! Sparky and Patty were two great friends of shooters. I heard after I moved to CA that the reloading building blew up and killed them both.

I lived in Glendale Heights IL; we actually had some decent gun shops in the area back then.
