Identify this Garand

I bought this rifle on a whim but the overall setup is throwing me for a loop. It is chambered in .308, the receiver is a Springfield Armory receiver from April 1941, the stock is period correct and it accepts a magazine (unknown as of yet but I assume it is an M14/M1A magazine). The gas system looks like it is from an M14 as well. The only gun that looks even close to this setup is the experimental T44E2 but I highly doubt it is a T44E2.

What say you, Calgunners? Let's see some opinions and facts.

I understand M14 parts resemble but will not go into an M1, but the BM59 very much resembles an M14, but is built off a modified M1 receiver.
Looking at the pictures and looking online for the T44, I noticed the stock on an actual T44 is angled/ slanted/ different around the magwell compared to your M1, but the BM 59 magwell resembles your rifles.
Just look at the pictures in the link and see if it resembles anything you have as I'm not the most familiar with the M1 and its derivatives.

There are a few people, present and past that do mag conversions on Garands.
They are rebarreled to 308 because it is easier to do the conversions using BM59 or M14 Mags.

I think even CMP is now offering Garands rechambered in .308 aren't they?

This doesn't look like a simple rechambering. The gas system looks entirely different, as in not original Garand. I'll take photos of the internals in a bit.

Here are photos detailing the difference between a standard Garand vs. the weird Garand and the magazine catch.

I tested both a BM59 and an M14 mag last night and I am happy to report that it is an M14 capable Garand.

Many of these mag type conversions were done years ago, some with welded receivers. This rifle is just another version of one
