Tell wife to call 911, grab HD handguns, move to sons room, retrieve son, bring son back to safe room, peek down stairs, if bad guy is breaking in, verify its a bad guy, crap pants, engage till the threat is gone, if said bad guy hasn't made entry retreat to safe room, use safe word (daughter nick-name) when coming in, lock safe room door, push two dressers in front of safe room door, get shotgun, place wife and kids in closet (opposite the door) out of the line of sight, close closet, wait with shotgun pointed at door.

Yup! They have definitely been key on randoms coming up to my house during the day.

My dog (see avatar) tells me when our little cat is knocking on the security door to be let in, I'm pretty sure he'll tell me if a person is pounding on it.

He sounds pretty scary barking at the door, so if they're still there by the time me and my little friend get there, I guess I'll ask them what the hell they want.

Or maybe just shoot through the door with a shotgun, isn't that what Bidon said we should do? It'd serve them right for pounding on my door @ 3 a.m.

Inside perimeter sweep armed and with dogs, no reason to go outside into an unknown situation. If I see something through a window, or keep hearing the sound, or dogs alert, I'll call Local PD on non emergency number and have them send a unit to investigate, that is what they get paid for.

In the mean time, I will have family wait in a sepcific area of the house (pre picked) that is easily defendable with only one approach. Well armed of course.

I'm not Rambo or John Wayne, I have Military experience (USMC) and other training, enough training in fact to know to weigh the pros and cons of the situation and know I am not leaving my defendable position to go out into the unknown with out an immediate and identifiable threat with no coms or back up.
