I have a Kimber Pro CDP II (among other 1911s) and it was defective right out of the box. Frame rails are not parrallel, they are wider at the front then at the rear and after two trips back to them it still ISN'T fixed and all I got was a ration of crap from them about how I wasn't qualified to question them.

Contrast that with Ruger and Para Ord which have both stepped up and replaced defective pistols for me with no hassel at all.

Google "Kimber customer service" prior to buying and make up your own mind. You can also check out the 1911 specific forums such as M1911.org for more info.

I may be wrong, and if so, someone please correct me. I believe the Springfield uses a regular novak sight cut and will have a broader selection of aftermarket sights than the Kimber should the OP decide to upgrade to tritiums etc.. I believe you need to buy Kimber specific sights should you choose to go that route, not that they are not available, just that you may have to do a bit more searching. Just something to think about

I have a SA loaded and have zero regret on the purchase. Everyone that has shot it loves it.

If by "much longer", you mean 5 years (or 11, depending on where you start counting), then yes, Springfield Armory Inc has a much longer history than Kimber

Don't be fooled by the marketing, while Springfield Armory is the first name in American firearms, Springfield Armory Inc. relatively new company. The original Armory was founded in 1777 by the US Government, but it was closed in 1968 as small-arm production moved to private companies. The original owner of Springfield Armory Inc. bought the rights to the name soon thereafter and manufactured M1A rifles. He then sold the company to the current owners in 1974, who added the 1911 to its lineup. Thus, Springfield Armory Inc. in its current incarnation did not exist until 1974.

Kimber, on the other hand, was founded in 1979, so even though the name doesn't have the history of Springfield Armory, there's not that much of an age difference.
