Mosin or Rossi model 92 or........

So I have about $600 to spend right now. Bills are paid and I received some money that a friend owed me lol. I'm thinkin if I should buy a mosin and a crap load of ammo or a rossi 92. I'm not sure, or should I just drop that $600 on a new AR . I'm torn. What is the most practical purchase? What would you guys do? I'm looking to add a new toy to the "SHTF" collection

That's what I'm thinkin, but the mall ninja in me say "no" though I'm torn. I really don't have the money for an AR although I really want one and if I spend the money on an rossi ill think to myself "that's half an AR" lol. Damnit!!!

Too bad you left Santa Barbara for Visalia.

The Historical Arms Show will be at Earl Warren on the 6th and 7th of July (three weeks)

Plenty of Mosins or other good stuff like Mausers.

Go play poker. Double up a couple times you can buy all three and a crap load of ammo. But then you'll probably come up with a new problem. Should I buy a 1911, Winchester 1894, or AR10.

            I'll back the '92 Rossi

I'd recommend the 20" .357 variety. I've got the .45 Colt, but the trajectory and pricy ammo is my only complaint. That big slug puts a solid thump on anything it hits though.
They are strong built actions, reliable, lightweight(under 6lbs),accurate and super handy to tote around as a camp or truck gun.
            They are great fun.

Have you handled/shot a Mosin? I think that they are pretty unwieldly unless you happen to be sitting in a trench shooting over the berm. To me the Rossi R92 is a much more practical weapon. 18" (edit: 16") for easy use in the house, and longer barrel to reach out and touch during SHTF. Go for 357/38spl for cheap practice shooting with FMJ, but very adequate power with home defense ammo like Critical Defense or any of the others. You will normally find 92's in this caliber a bit more expensive as they are very popular for this reason (shoot cheaper ammo). Next choice for me would be to go with one in 30-30 (Rio Grande) - even better suited for SHTF and not overly unreasonable for ammo cost. The other choices like 454 Casull, 45 LC, 44 Mag are fine guns for SHTF, but I find them a bit too expensive to practice shoot, so I stuck with the smaller rounds.

Got to love the Rossi.....not sure your going to be able to find one with an 18" barrel ....
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Get an AR lower or two now. Save the rest for a Rossi.

Mosin shouldn't even be on the list.

Love my Mosin but the cheap ammo can't be used in SoCal on any outdoor range during dry season which is almost all year long. Range friendly ammo cheapest I've seen is $16 for 20rnds.

With the possible bans coming up it could be a good idea to buy a lower or two. Palmetto sometimes has good deals on full kits (upper, lpk, buttstock). If you look out for deals you might be able to build an AR for around $700-$800 before taxes. Remember the possibility of another panic around Oct (I think) when laws or voted on.

Rossi, in .44 Mag or .45 LC.

                          Get a mosin (either a 91-30 or a M44) and a spam can (440 rds) of ammo.

A slip-on recoil pad will take care of any recoil problems.

Take it out and shoot it; if you don't like it, you can always sell for what you paid for it (and prob a bit more)

                            Why a .44 and not a .38/.357?
