    That is absolutely NOT true.

    Space race legend claims NASA spent millions of dollars developing an 'astronaut pen' that would work in outer space, while the Soviets solved the same problem by simply using pencils.

      Which changes my point... well... not at all...

      You will have those people who - will spend extra; time, effort and money to invent a new product - to do the same thing than can be done with an existing product. Because they believe they are creating something of greater value than by not creating it.
