not private party if it is not FTF.

The deal MUST go through a ffl holder as far as I know. So it is considered an ffl sale. Hopefully the gun is on the roster or SSE.

for normal shipping, get a box and pack but do not seal it up.

Get measurements and weight and GO TO FEDEX WEBSITE and "create a shipment" or whatever they call it. Enter in all of your info and then when you are done, pay for it and print out the shipping label.

Then go to any fedex/kinkos and drop it off, get a confirmation receipt and you are done.

Hopefully you already talked with the FFL holder and asked them what they wanted, but these things should be standard. I only had ONE douchebag ffl holder/range tell me that I could not send them a gun in this manner and it was a rifle being sent to a guy in fresno I think. They were ridiculous and said that I HAD to be an ffl holder in order to ship them anything cause it was illegal if I was not. Anyways, they were full of it. If your ffl holder is not cool then go to gunbroker and look at their list and find another one close by that will take it. I have done that a few times.

You can call up or e-mail the FFL holder and inform them that the shipment is on the way and give them the tracking number BUT DO NOT GIVE THE TRACKING NUMBER to the private party that is going to be getting it. They can actually use the tracking number to change the delivery address and have it sent directly to them. (illegal purchase and your name could still be on it if it is a handgun).

It is best (legal) to make sure it is ONLY shipped to the ffl holder (sounds like you might already have that information) AND that you should include a copy of your CDL and a short letter telling WHO it is going to. If it is a gift then make certain to mention that in the letter so that they do not charge tax to the recipient. Of course the recipient should also know that it is a gift.

Finally, when you put your paperwork inside that box and seal it up, DO NOT put anything on the outside of the box indicating it is a gun or firearm. But make sure to make that box sealed appropriately. I use strapping tape (with the fiberglass threads or whatever in them, it is striped tape).

By going to the website and creating a package you avoid the questions they ask you, WHAT IS INSIDE? (the correct answer is sporting goods).

You can do this with UPS too, but they tend to be a dolla two more...

As far as weight goes, you should have in your inventory a decent postal shipping scale. You can get them for cheap, I bought one a long time ago and I use it for a lot of things so if you do not have one, you should buy one or consider getting one. This would be fine: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Postal...shipping+scale

Hope this helps. GL and stay safe and legal.

Quite a bit of FUD here. Call the receiving FFL, see if,they will accecpt from a non licensee. You do not need to be an FFL to ship a handgun anywhere, whether it be in California or Nebraska. You need to be an FFL to receive firearms crossing state lines.
Also, give the buyer the tracking number. Wouldn't you want to know when your gun gets there? The buyer can't change anything, it's addressed to the FFL. You will need to put a copy of your ID inside the case and any contact info. Not needed but most FFL's will ask you. The post above is incorrect that you need to ship from a UPS or FED EX hub.
My knowledge is from shipping and receiveing guns as a non licensee, an FFL, and as an acting agent of a 07FFL/02SOT.
