Need help finding a citation that shows Armed civilians stop more crimes than police officers each year. I remember seeing this discussed previously but the search function eludes my capabilities.

Can't find what does not exist.
Whatever non-LEOs may do that does not result in an arrest never gets tallied - why report 'I scared a guy away when I put my hand on my gun'? So, there is no way to conclusively document the 'Armed civilians stop more crimes than police officers' assertion.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good! -
While I agree with Librarian's sentiments, today you can find a study to support just about anything, or be applied to support a given point. Of course, every result is subject to the conditions of the event and the failures of the study. Enjoy.
"...Newsweek has reported that law-abiding American citizens using guns in self-defense during 2003 shot and killed two and one-half times as many criminals as police did, and with fewer than one-fifth as many incidents as police where an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal (2% versus 11%)."

Well, yes, but this information:
does not apply to this request.

'Shot and killed more criminals' <> 'stopped more crimes', since crimes include a whole lot more than armed confrontations.
Perhaps the OP misremembered what he was asking for.Last edited by Librarian; 06-05-2013, 2:22 PM.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

True. But as I noted,
"While I agree with Librarian's sentiments, today you can find a study to support just about anything, or be applied to support a given point."
I never said it had to be relevant.
Apologies. I've been chatting with my Dem wife.
