    Cleaning Rod?

    Which one is good?

I've been using the crapy 3 piece rods that came with a few kits I had purchased long time ago. It's time to purchase something that does what it's meant to do without breaking.

Two main answers - Dewey and Tipton

Dewey rods are nylon coated, well established, work great. Tiptons are newer and made of carbon fiber.

I'd go Dewey. And don't forget the jags.

      Dewey!
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Tipton or Dewey(I have both) with a decent jag.

Pro-Shot stainless steel rods - no coating to worry about flaking off.

Consider bore snakes, basically a shoelace with an embedded bronze bore brush and a thicker tail.

For light cleaning the bore brush has the surface area of something like 100 or 1000 patches, can't remember which. I have always been very happy with a couple bore snake passes and a light in the chamber.

Cons, need one for almost every caliber
Kind of touchy to clean them, best done in a washable garment bag when wifey is away.

Do you have any tricks on using them on a .22 cal rifle? They always seem slightly too big to fit down the barrel. And yes, I am using a .22 bore snake.

Let the cord hang down onto the floor, step on it. Pull the rifle up. They're supposed to be a tight fit.

I mean feeding it through the barrel. The "shoelace" seems a little too big, even on my ar. I'd be fine if I could actually get the brass part to the end of the barrel.

It should just "fit", but if it's hanging up, pull it back out a couple inches and drop it again(using the weight of the brass to get it through). If the cord is getting caught up, sounds like you need to clean your chamber or bore, lol.

I like to run a bore snake thought my lever guns first just so I don't push all the carbon and build up in the action.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Hmm. Nope, mine fit loosely enough that I can drop the metal crimped part and it zips right through. The brushes are a beast to pull through, but the thin part fits for every bore it is keyed to.

A thought, those packages are easy to open, I wonder if you got a mixup snake? Maybe try a different one?

Or what color is it, I think they are color coded.

It's stamped 22 on the brass, maybe something expanded the string. I'll take a look when i get home and see if i can figure anything out.

I'm very happy with my new Tipton rod. My Hoppes' handle broke off plus it was too short for my Swede m/96's long barrel. I also pair it with Tipton's brass jag set.
