After a bit of debating, I decided to outfit my Glock 17 (3rd Generation) with a Trijicon RMR sight. The Ruggedized Miniature Reflex (RMR) sight has slowly gained quite a bit of popularity in the f…

As far as cost, you can get the Trijicon RMR RM07 for around $575 give or take depending on the vendor, and the current price for the TSD slide from One Source Tactical is $450. So if you go the same route I went, you are talking about a good $1000 USD (not to mention a new holster, if necessary).
I've been running one on my Glock 17 for a few months now. I am very happy with it. It's a nice piece of kit.

Is it necessary? No. Is it pricey? Yes. Is it worth? That all depends on your budget constraints.

While it seems like it's going more mainstream with a lot of coverage in gun rags and online media, I still see it as a niche market.

I can guarantee that you will be slower on draw to presentation to firing when you first install one and start using it. But it doesn't take may repetitions to get back up to speed.

No matter what you do, maintain the iron sights with a micro red dot. It sounds counter intuitive, but that front sight post will serve as an index for when you acquire the red dot for your sight picture.

If you want to go with a Micro Red Dot, just don't have the expectations that you're performance levels will go up immediately. It's going to be another platform you have to learn.

I will say that a micro red dot is very humbling when it comes to seeing how shaky you are when shooting. With standard irons, you can't see how much movement is going on with the pistol. But with a red dot, it will be evident and it makes an excellent training aid when it comes to isolating flaws in your mechanics.

I don't like the idea of spending a ton of money on a red dot.
