Maybe it's you. Most people rave about their CS. My experience with them was excellent.
They had the odd good consignment deal... I always found the service to be satisfactory.

I just hate when I ask to special order a hard to find gun and say I'm willing to wait and a shop still says "good luck with that" and laughs.Comment

I think you just need some thicker skin. I was laughed at by multiple LGSs when I kept calling to find a Ruger SR22 in stock somewhere a few months ago. I didn't let it bother me though because I knew a lot of people were looking for them at the time. Persistence paid off and I ended up getting one on sale at one of the stores that laughed at me a month before.Originally posted by MezcalfudBecause a Glock looks great in the case and then when you take it home it feels like you're holding a Costco pack of Kielbasa.Comment

I really have a hard time seeing the logic in opening a gun store right now. Of course, if they have all the left over inventory from the old owner, that may be one thing, but just about all lgs in San Diego has next to nothing in the way of handguns. (Not sure how turners looks). And with this legislation and political climate, I can't see how one can survive.
If you gave me a couple million to open a business, despite loving firearms, I probably would not opt for a gun shop.

I've run into that same situation with a bunch of shops in the bay area over guns.
If you're ordering something with an expectedly long lead time, but doesn't have 10,000 other people waiting in line, it makes sense(like waiting on something custom). If you're trying to order something that a shop hasn't been able to get in stock for ages because the distributors or manufacturers have no inventory, or the demand is so ridiculously high, they simply don't want to deal with it.
If the shops could get their hands on some of those popular items, they'd keep them in regular inventory. Looking for a particular 1911 that didn't even need an SSE, couldn't find it anywhere. Got answers from shops ranging between "well we've had 5 of those on order for a year" to "we haven't received anything from that manufacturer in 6 months" and even "well, we could do it, but you might be waiting a couple of years".
I'm not even talking about during a panic, I'm talking about the middle of 2011 or so. You're better off looking around till you find whatever it is in stock, and then get it transferred through your local FFL.
Think about it from the shop's perspective. What good does it do them(or even you) to have money tied up in something that's going to be on order indefinitely? If you wanted some custom les baer or whatever that they could get a lead time on, it makes sense. If it's for a ruger sr1911 that even being mass produced no one can get a hold of, there's no point. They may not even be able to get on a list to order something for you if everything is already allocated.Comment
