Hi guy's, looking for a nice CCW load for 9mm Sprigfield EMP. What are you guy's running in your, and why. I'm thinking something in the +P type HP, and would like to know what runs well enough to count on for wife's Carry rig... Thanks...

I don't have a Springfield EMP, but in my Kimber and LB 1911's I run Hornady Critical Defense. Problem with some of the 1911's is if the throat isn't smooth and polished the JHP's can get hung up. Best bet is to buy a few extra boxes of different kinds of ammo and test out the ammo before using it for carry. I know it's pricey to shoot defense ammo, but if you ever need to use it it'll be worth every dollar.Comment

Agreed. I ended up polishing my 1911's feed ramp and presto!!! Like a rock.I don't have a Springfield EMP, but in my Kimber and LB 1911's I run Hornady Critical Defense. I use Hornady Critical Defense in my SP2022 for ccw and it runs great.I am a law enforcement officer in the state of Colorado. Nothing I post is legal advice of any kind.

Thanks guy's, I have already polished chamber & feed ramp, and tune a little.
But i will check out various manufactures.
First box I got today was the only thing anybody had, it's fed premium 124 HP hydra shock. Not +P but it's all I could find. Will try and let ya know... Thanks, will also look for these others you all spoke about... Price was $24.89 for 20 OUCH...

I currently use 124g +p HSTs in mine. I've also used 124g +p Ranger T and PDX1 before. I make it a point to run about 100 rounds of my intended carry load before settling on it to make sure it feeds reliably. It was because of this that I ended up passing on Gold Dots even though they were originally my first choice. I had 6 or 7 failures to feed with the Gold Dots. Every time the lip of hollow point got caught on the edge of the feed ramp. I had no such issues with the other ones I listed. Does that mean that Gold Dots are bad? Nope, just not right for my EMP. They work fine in my XD9 though.

That is true per the manual. I have talked to Springfield and I was told that they would not recommend regularly using +p rounds in the gun. However, running some +p rounds will not cause damage. I run regular ball 115 or 124g ammo for training and practice. The only issue I have personally with 147g is using a heavier, slower round combined with such a short barrel. However, if you get good shot placement, it's really a moot point anyway.

I run Hornady critical duty in my 9mm carry guns and Buffalo Bore +P HP in my .45 carry gun.Comment

The heavier 147 gr actually loses less velocity % wise in a short barrel than the lighter bullets which keeps them closer to the design parameters of the round.
I also talked with SA about the +p after reading the manual, and asked about using it for SD ammo only, not as a practice round. They still said that they do not recommend it.

Hornady Critical Defense gives you lighter recoil, designed for shorter barrel lengths, and the lighter bullet will help with over penetration
Corbon DXP for everything, great barrier penetration, heavy bullet, all copper bullet has 100% weight retention."We should not forget that the spark which ignited the American Revolution was caused by the British attempt to confiscate the firearms of the colonists."
