I heard about this cause I slave for the redman and the bosses were talking about it.
Knowing how the natvies at Soboba really are, it's most likely an illegally aquired and imported AR15 type rifle.
From my experience almost all the natvies I know/have associated with/met on rez, disregard all CA gun laws and barely put an effort in complying with federal gun laws.
SOBOBA INDIAN RESERVATION - Five sheriff's deputies fired their weapons during a gun battle that ended with the death of a 26-year-old San Jacinto man who investigators say was armed with an assault rifle, said Sgt. Dean Spivacke.
The deputies were part of two groups of officers who were fired upon before Eli Morillo was shot multiple times near Poppet Flats Road, Spivacke said. The gunfire took place in a remote area of the reservation east of San Jacinto.
Spivacke said investigators are still piecing together the events surrounding Thursday's shooting and are searching for two others who were with Morillo, including one suspect investigators believe fired a weapon during the gun battle.
Riverside County sheriff's deputies were patrolling the reservation about 12:15 a.m. when someone began shooting at them with assault rifles, said Investigator Jerry Franchville. The Riverside County coroner's office listed Morillo's time of death as 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
After the shooting, dozens of officers converged on the reservation, which was closed off for hours as investigators combed the area looking for the other two suspects. A gun recovered from the scene appears to be an AR-15 assault rifle, Franchville said.
Morillo was the second member of his family to die in a gunfight with deputies. His brother, Peter Morillo, 27, died in October 2002 at a Valle Vista house after barricading himself inside.
Their mother, Rosemary Morillo, has served as a Tribal Council member and was chairwoman until earlier this year.

My question is, what were Riverside deputies doing on Tribal Lands? They have no place being there, while the reservation may lie within their county, the reservation itself is tribal land, and therefore county police have no say-so there. It falls under tribal police or federal agents jurisdiction.
