    Ignorant gun owning co-worker

2 months ago I heard that a co-worker was DROSing an H&K P2000. Last week I hear he is DROSing a Walther P22. I see him today only to find out that he has both guns and has not yet fired them. He asks if I want to see the Walther and to meet him at his truck. Upon arriving at his truck I climb into the drivers seat and he takes the gun out of his center console and hands it to me. Well, I realease the mag and it is loaded. I then rack the slide and a round pops out of the chamber. The dummy hand be a loaded gun without even a warning. I jumped his case and told him how moronic he was and he said he trusted me and that he was trained to handle guns in the military. I handed him his gun and walked away.

    Some people.

Did you tell him he was committing two crimes by having a loaded and concealed handgun in the car?
The above does not constitute legal advice. I am not your lawyer.

As a matter of fact I did. He feels that he is not a gangster and that if pulled over it will be for speeding and he will just sign the ticket without a vehicle search. I wished him luck and not to call me to bail him out.

Not a Marine, Hell in bootcamp we were taught the 4 weapons safety rules so friggen much its engrained in out brains. Drill instructor would call out a phrase such as " 4 weapon safety rules recruits!!" and we'd respond by saying

4 weapon safety rules aye aye sir!!

RULE #1 Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
RULE #2 never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.
RULE #3 Keep finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
RULE #4 Keep weapon on safe until you intend to fire.

we had a marine that use to work at Jackson Arms and that fool shot into my boss's office cause he picked up another employees gun with out bothering to check if it was loaded and pulled the trigger. if my boss was sitting in his chair he wouldn't be alive today. so just because someone is properly trained doesn't necessarily mean the can retain what they learned.

back to the subject though.....I would've wiped my finger prints off them guns before handing it back to him....

Some of the WORSE gun safety violators are military and LEOs. We had a guy practicing quick draw from a leg holster. Ended up shooting a hole through the barracks wall and two porta potties. Most of the nonchalance with gun safety is because those peopel are around guns all day long so they stop bothering to check things. Sort of like driving to work. You get so used to it I bet most of you know every pothole and bump in the road. But yeah the guy in question is a complete idiot

I hate jackass's that say that crap! I've found that most idiots that claim military experience are POG's that only fire their weapon for rifle qual.

Could he have been testing you?

My fiancee once commented that I and some of my friends looked like we were practicing weird rituals as we were checking out some of the stuff from one of my safes - each handler in turn would check the chamber/magwell/cylinder whatever when they were handed a piece.

I had to explain to her that they were indeed rituals - safety rituals - and to not complete your part in it was to display ignorance - at best - and stupidity at worst.

Perhaps your co-worker was checking your competence.
